BBC news "India gov has announced that all remaining 19,000 villages will have electricity within the next 2 years"
..It seems it was a throwaway line in the Indian budget which just repeats an already existing target of 1st May, 2018
"The government is committed to achieve 100 percent village electrification by 1st May, 2018," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said.

The Indian business newspaper pointed out factories are losing faith in the grid and political interference

industries succumbing to self-generation - diesel gensets in 47 per cent of the cases............
BTW Leo di Caprio said something like :
"Lets not take this planet for granted"
or was it ?
"Lets not take exploiting people's concerns for the planet for actors publicity for granted"

2 stories of bias in BBC From Our Own Correspondent

#1 "El Ninos ..are amplified by global climate change" says reporter as if its a proven fact
\\This morning’s ‘From Our Own (biased) Correspondent’ managed to slip in an unproven assertion that this year’s El Nino was being amplified by man-made global warming and how wonderful Detroit is now that they make bicycles there instead of cars. //(Steve Jones on BBBC)

#2 A BBC 'reporter' laments that Climate Change hasn't been dealt with cos of lobbying money.

US shale frackers eye world conquest despite bloodbath

"........Mr Papa expects the global balance of supply and demand to tighten by 1.6m b/d this year. This would mop up the glut, before gradually eating into record stocks next year. "The market is going to grow to 100m b/d. Where is the quantity going to come from? Capital spending on mega-projects has stopped cold,” he said.
“I can see a case where US shale is the biggest supplier of oil in the world by 2020. We could turn the whole thing on its ear, producing 13-14m b/d. But it will be really ugly getting through this valley,” he said.

This would amount to 16m b/d if all liquids are included, more than the combined crude exports of Saudi Arabia and Russia. The International Energy Agency forecast this week that the US would account for much of the growth in world output by 2020 - after dropping 600,000 b/d this year, and 200,000 next year......."

BiasedBBC has an interesting video about NGOs receiving large amounts of EU money.

\\ Astonishingly Oxfam has received over €326 million from the EU between 2007 and 2013….last year it received €82.8 million. Oxfam doesn’t just use this to feed or educate the needy it uses it to lobby and pressurise governments to adopt policies that Oxfam wants them to adopt.//

More problems cause by climate change: Heatwaves and cold snaps make babies shorter and smaller, scientists find.

“Worldwide, pregnant women and their babies and children are often some of the most vulnerable members of society and consequently the hardest hit by climate change. As healthcare professionals we need to work now on finding ways to mitigate the effects of climate change on health.

And there was I thinking that we'd always had heatwaves and cold snaps. UEA involvement, more money needed for research.

Does anybody know of estimates of power consumption for non wind driven windmills - i.e. maintaining the nacelles and if required slowly rotating the machinery to avoid blade droop + set and gearbox "sawing"?
