Thanks for that - I stand corrected. Tim seems to have been nobbled, though - he mentions "Gabrielle Walker and Sir David King, in their otherwise superb book on climate change"...

R and the Hiatus

Folk who are familiar with the language R may find the following of interest since the 'debunking paper' emanated from Stanford University no less.

http://www.r-bloggers.com/critique-of-debunking-the-climate-hiatus-by-rajaratnam-romano-tsiang-and-diffenbaugh/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+RBloggers+%28R+bloggers%29

As suggested in the blog, those who do know R, can reproduce the results ' by first downloading the data using this shell script (which downloads other data too, that I use in other blog posts), or manually download from the URLs it lists if you don’t have wget. You then need to download my R script for the above analysis and this R source file (renaming them to .r from the .doc that wordpress requires), and then running the script in R as described in its opening comments (which will take quite a long time).'

You'll be OK with the LEDs for a bit yet, these will only become a cost effective alternative once the process has been refined.

Researchers at MIT have shown that by surrounding the filament with a special crystal structure in the glass they can bounce back the energy which is usually lost in heat, while still allowing the light through.

Greenhouse effect, the bulb is less heat radiated less energy required to maintain filament temperature. Some sort of multilayer reflective coatings at several IR wavelengths or something different?

@jamesp In Liberal circles challenging Green Dogma might make your dearest CROSS ..their legs. Eh SamCam ?
The "crossed legs response" ..subdues challenging.
Nevertheless the prog has busted many things ..including recently the Syrian drought link, and that 1 in 100 year floods aren't really that.
Just Google with specific terms eg using the words "climate change"
- same with Tim Harford
- I recommend the freakonomics guys

I wish Tim Harford would cover AGW - I'm never sure if he knows about it but has been warned off, or is unaware. This has some relevance, though.

I see incandescent light bulbs could be back.

Damn I just changed all my fluorescent bulbs for LEDs !

In the private sector the leader has to spend money (the easy bit) in order to make money (the hard bit).

In the public sector the leader has just to spend money.

'But we have to pay high salaries to get the best' is the eternal cry in public and private sector places but very few of them make intrinsic difference to the success of the companies they float in and out of.

I've often thought that as well, a high proportion of the so call Best often make things worse and move from job to job with ease. All very puzzling and when I hear it I think thank god we're not employing the worst.

Another Rogered story getting priorities muddled again.

David Cameron is due before the Commons Liaison Committee later, which is made up of MPs who chair Commons select committees.

He will be questioned on climate change, as well as the conflict in Syria.

stewgreen;

I've had the same problems; can't find any specific details either from Telford and Wrekin Council, or from Izen Energy Systems, the Belgian company, apparently running the site.
