Please, can someone, anyone, just tell me whether we are heading for an ice age or being fried alive?
Yes.😀

More EU madness, supported by UK Government. Motorists 'face higher petrol costs' to hit EU green targets.

Ministers have disclosed that they are drawing up new proposals to meet an EU requirement that 10 per cent of transport energy must come from renewable sources by 2020.

Unusually, no comments are allowed on the article by Emily Gosden.

Robert Christopher, sorry I can't simplify, I've never been on Tinder but if the article is to be belived we'll use the word 'chill' a lot if that helps:-D

Robert Christopher, the debate does seem polarised, but neither pole is melting in accordance with the models.

Is TINDER changing the way we think? Experts warn 'binary thinking' teaches people to over simplify and become disconnected
'Tinderization' is a way of over-simplifying, leading to yes or no decisions
Phenomoenon allows people to passively avoid emotional entanglement
Concept applies to more than just Tinder, and leads to robotic behaviour

"As technology merges with social decision making, users are growing increasingly disconnected, tending more towards 'either/or,' options than embracing complexity."

re: silt measurement
It's quite an arcane topic and dependent on local geology/conditions. At Swansea I suspect they are probably far enough away from the main load to "get away with it" and iirc the open sea circulation "washes the Welsh coast first".. On the south side by WSM / Parret estuary they might as well start recruiting Dutch polder farmers straight away.

pffft... greenies.... - why does that not surprise me that they didn't look at silting up...? The contractors for marine/offshore eco projects have been quite happy to let the renewable fantasists make design and operational mistakes - and there have been a few and there are going to be some more.

indeed they do in rivers - I'll ask if any of my dredging chums know the score with salt water.... Maybe ask the EA ? - that'd be fun.

Just listening to BBC Radio 4 "More or Less". Last item is about a report comparing the health risk from the air quality in Beijing with smoking (saying it's as bad). The report was prepared by prominent statisticians including Lord Stern, and Cher (the singer). Apparently the quoted conclusion was made up on the fly.
Cue eco-activists demanding the removal of Tim Harford and the replacement with a Greenpeace approved person.

TinyCO2, I can't believe that Global Warming hasn't already been blamed for silting. It would make silting unique.

Phillip

"a dredging vessel would pump it over the barrier"

Once you start moving it, doesn't the EU regard it as hazardous waste? That's the EA interpretation, I believe...
