Harry Passfield, the power of suggestion or providing plausible explanations for a sequence of coincedences, is something that Global Warming Alarmists have had a lot of practice and experience in. They couldn't find any verifiable science, so had to keep busy doing something.

ACK:

have you ever considered that he thinks he's just doing his job? Reporters and commentators not only have to present a news story but put it into context. The context that politics, the scientific establishment and the BBC (reflecting this input) have is that climate change caused by humans is real and poses a threat. So someone like Justine (sic) Web hears a story that might be "misinterpreted" and attempts to put it into the currently accepted context
I am well aware that journalists/interviewers have to play 'Devil's advocate' when interviewing but the line is so often crossed by certain people. Web, to my mind is one (and, fwiw, the worst interviewer, IMHO, on BBC who tries and fails at DA is Vine); there are many more.

But, I also take issue that the interviewer has to present the news story in a context defined by the BBC. The context is the story and what it's worth, especially in this case when discussing a science paper. Of course, it is different if the interviewee is espousing a particular POV: that has to be challenged for balance, but the Reading scientist was not pushing an agenda, that came from WEB and his BBC 'context'. To me, the key is 'balance', not 'context'.

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2016/11/23/salon-heres-a-list-of-potential-climate-budget-cuts/

It is only a list of POTENTIAL cuts.

The coincedence of the UK Climate Change Act in 2008 and the world economic collapse in 2008, is not the sort of opportunity that Global Warming Alarmists would let pass, without linking.

The latest dire financial forecast warnings from UK Thunk Tanks, presumably assumed that Climate Scientists would continue dominating economic and industrial policies in the UK, EU and USA.

If the UK is to rise with the USA's increased outputs, and leave the EU trailing, the UK's Budget in 2017 will need some beneficial cuts to UK Taxation.

For stewgreen and SandyS:

"Estimating Local Mortality Burdens associated with Particulate Air Pollution"

AFAIK the position wrt NO2 is still not resolved and he media is getting ahead of itself:

"Interim statement on quantifying the association of long-term average concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and mortality."

stewgreen, the values of most things that are useful and productive, have probably increased, now that there is a closing down sale in Climate Science.

@stewgreen

hmmm.... aluminium smelters outside China are presently taking a hammering (gosh... now I wonder why that might be?).

Al smelters always have a "generator attached" though - I recall back in the days of Enron that US NW smelters were shut off so their power plants could be used to power the west coast ....

In other news Guido has run a story about Deloitte's "conflict of interest" in faking a government leak....

SandyS, perhaps it was only Antarctic ice that ever slipped out through the Ozone hole. Now that the hole is shut, the ice cannot escape through the back door and has no option but to accumulate.

How much would you pay for a Scottish Aluminium smelter including 2 hydroelectic dams ?
Lochaber 82MW and Kinlochleven 24MW
Liberty house just paid £330m
That seems reasonably cheap to me ..you could shut the smelter and still make a profit running the dams... depends the debts I guess

Price pressure on OUR and French electricity due to French nuclear repairs/checks being given 1 more more month for 2 reactors
"The reactors had been due to restart on November 30, but further checks will be required to satisfy ASN, the French nuclear safety regulator, that they are safe.
Another EDF reactor, Saint-Laurent 2, has been given permission to restart three days earlier than expected, on November 24." Times
