TR thought that good advice was ridiculous.

"Private Eye", "Have I Got News For You", "Guido Fawkes" etc are used to skating to the edge of thin ice. Pushing libel law to the limits is Civil Law. Defying the Orders of a Court is Criminal Law. I expect TR is now wishing he had listened to the advice he thought was ridiculous, and not the incorrect advice he wanted to hear.

Pcar @7:04pm - imho the rot set in when magistrates got powers of contempt - from what little I've seen there are too many of them that simply bring summary justice into disrepute - and by and large they aren't weeded out.

Ross Lea @1:19pm - even if there is - you can bet your bottom dollar that the wheels of justice will seize up - challenges are rare and it'd likely only work if the beak's peers know that he/she is serially deranged - even then - they'd rather cover it up than admit to failure. Powers accumulated over centuries aren't let go lightly.

@GC,

I agree with stewgreen:

@Golf you look ridiculous saying Guido has NOT lost the plot

Cartoon?

Contempt of Court: "when that covers disobeying/insulting/obstructing a judge - in his perception - any time, any place, any where...

Is GC on holiday and A Knitpicker hijacked?

However in other countries it doesn't matter if the jury know you have a prior conviction and these days in UK its difficult to keep such info secret.

This is UK Law. It doesn't matter what happens in other Countries.

Go back and read the words on Guido's cartoon, and come back and explain Contempt of Court. Then explain to me why you think I am being ridiculous.

Have you considered the possibility that the Judge had proof that TR had previously been warned about what constituted Contempt, and the Consequences? Contempt of Court does not require someone to be on Court Premises. There is no "Parliamentary Privilege" or exclusion zone.

You are both welcome to reject my opinion on law, I am not a lawyer. Are you and TR both relying on the same opinion, as it seems TR made a mistake?

I look forward to the victims achieving Justice in these trials, and those to come, whatever the race, colour, creed etc of the defendants.

No matter how decent his motivation, TR has put himself out of the running for the foreseeable future. What is your opinion about why he received the length of sentence that he did? A deterrent or preventative sentence?

FWIW, his video clearly records his arrest for Breach of the Peace, NOT Contempt of Court.

@Golf you look ridiculous saying Guido has NOT lost the plot
It is not about whether TR is guilty or not
It's about Guido throwing insults around in his post and at all who challenge him onTwitter.

We know that TR was not reporting on the court proceedings, he was outside waiting for the verdict, he was in a position where a policeman had told him he was not on court premises
Did he break the reporting restrictions ? The judge said that is proven, we don't know how.

I'm guessing the jury was slowly working their way through the verdicts and so each defendant was leaving the court after their own verdict.
It maybe possible that the 3 court cases are configured such that the same defendant is being tried for the assault on other complainants and that the judge has decided that all verdicts must be kept secret and that by pointing a camera at them TR might provoke them to reveal the verdict.
However in other countries it doesn't matter if the jury know you have a prior conviction and these days in UK its difficult to keep such info secret.

@tomo

"Given that judge's powers are almost unfettered when it come to contempt of court" when that covers insulting/obstructing a judge any time, any where...

You referred me to IDAU 1:02 am to support your opinion

IDAU 1:02 am is referring to a case in Sheffield.

[redacted] was covering a case in Leeds.

Guido lost the plot a few months ago: stories not covered, commenters banned - some from order-order only, others from disqus.

Suspicion is Gov't have leant on him.
