it really does not seem a stretch to assume that "energy" official's grasp of emissions and electricity measurement track senior FCO diplomat's understandings of the life of Karl Marx and the religion of Sikhism?

- yet few in prominent public positions choose to call out the activist stupidity foisted onto taxpayers....

That "B Arker" principle at play yet again.

R4 just now Queens speech to Comonwealth had libspeak
"more sustainable world"
who wrote that for her ?
Ah I see it's a copy of the PM's phrasing
"And this week we have come together to reach a series of shared commitments that will help to build a more secure, more sustainable, more prosperous and fairer future for all."

the Queen said.
"By continuing to treasure and reinvigorate our associations and activities I believe we will secure a prosperous and more sustainable world for those who follow us,"

Smart Meters/ car-emissions : Government set unrealistic targets
The consequence is that to comply corps are driven into tricky measures

Yes an incredible mistake, cos it doesn't have an ambiguous name
The Golden Temple

Grenfell Tower : "For fire safety tests the labs tests don't reflect what happens in the real world"

UK has 3 classes of people : Our colonial masters the metro-lib-elite, their special-pets(like Grenfell residents)..and the rest of us (generally the working class in the provinces)

elsewhere

After the UK's top diplomat at the UN recently inferred (to the UN Assembly) that Karl Marx was a Russian we now have another of our "Rolls-Royce" Foreign Office public servants calling the Sikh temple at Amritsar "a mosque"

Whitehall litter pickers are likely more/better informed than our "top public servants". Perhaps job swaps might improve things?

Since the "Smart Meter" roll out is such a rip-roaring success increasing levels of compulsion will be deployed.

As I've said here several times now - the ubiquitous (BBC Tax) enforcers of Crapita will doubtless mine the fiasco for more public money - they are already into the public purse on this issue alone for some hundreds of £millions£ - and are obviously eyeing up more loot allocated to an increasingly unpopular scheme.

It's a sickly holy cow that should have been euthanised ages ago (The Register in 2016) - but it is also a totem for the Green Blob + corporate cronies - so they'll fight for it tooth and nail

Migrants Smuggled into Britain Past ‘Sleepy’ Border Officers Who ‘Don’t Care’

Makes me think of Norway in the early 1990s - arriving at the Fornebu Oslo airport at the time it wasn't unusual to find the customs + immigration areas completely unmanned.

I recall one occasion when a charter flight (an unmarked and dog-eared DC-8 ) arrived from Pakistan....

As I've said repeatedly here the Channel Tunnel crossing is a farce with as far as I can see (5/6 occasions after 2010) UK registered coaches obviously full of day tripper shopping pensioners getting loads of attention and dozens of battered foreign registered vans passing untouched.

Back in the 00s Gordon Brown instituted a heavy handed policy of harassing UK border shoppers with a "freewheeling" campaign of seizures targeting booze and tobacco (That resulted in the imprisonment of a number of thieving "border guards" who were operating their own warehouses of seized goods and using seized vehicles for deliveries )

I can't help thinking that things would be a bit different if Islington (N+S) were chosen as the sole site for processing the influx of inadequately documented chancers.

Regularly heading in the opposite direction - I always see some irony in the costs and regulation of travel *to* the countries that source a lot of our migrants.

The Norwegians wised up some time ago.
