Hot news, evolution cools - Josh 318

Steve McIntyre has the scoop:

According to the University of Victoria, Andrew Weaver says:

the next generation of his climate model will address the influence of climate on human evolution—much like it’s now being used to examine the influence of humans on climate evolution”.

In breaking news, Climate Audit has obtained exclusive information on output from the first runs of Weaver’s “next generation” climate model. These are the first known climate model predictions of the future of human evolution. The results are worrying: take a look.

Well isn't it a good thing I wasn't drinking, eating or suffering from a weak heart! Please! When your cartoons are this funny they must come with a health warning.

A great cartoon. Fortunately not all humans are evolving in the way of the last one shown, which hopefully will go the way of the Neanderthals (or step off a cliff, the way it's looking into the future).

The last image of Mann, leading his predecessors over a cliff.

What idiot passed the funding request for this work ?

The cartoon is brill. A real keyboard shower quality.

Like Mann, I've clearly lost my marbles as I finally made a testable prediction on global temperature.

My Global Temperature Forecast: cooling ~0.35C by 2030 years

From this I can work out that by 2030 - I will be retired (if I ever get back to working)

Josh - you've surpassed yourself...!

Just wondering if Mann should be an evolutionary branch (think of all the bald heads and beards). :)

Is there a smaller one..? No disrespect to Josh, but part of it is hard to unsee!

Mar 17, 2015 at 5:39 PM | Registered Commenterjamesp

With the last few posts about Weaver, his 'buddy review', being 'tricked' by Mann, and the libel case, it almost seems that Steve is trying to goad Weaver into suing him.

Mar 17, 2015 at 5:51 PM | Registered CommenterPaul Matthews

Josh, that is CLASSick

Mar 17, 2015 at 5:54 PM | Unregistered CommenterAnoneumouse

Shouldn't be in reverse? Mann being the lower prosimian?

Andrew Weaver - what a joke!

Mar 17, 2015 at 6:06 PM | Unregistered CommenterCharmingQuark

Is anyone else getting the advert "THE BOILER HAS EVOLVED", snigger.

Mar 17, 2015 at 6:14 PM | Unregistered CommenterTinyCO2

The more you draw, the sharper your drawing tools become, Josh. Respect!!

Mar 17, 2015 at 6:35 PM | Unregistered CommenterAlexander K

Very funny! Thank you Josh.

(And thank you for sparing humanity the Gore-ian and Pachaur-ian phases of the ascent).

Mar 17, 2015 at 6:53 PM | Unregistered CommenterZT

That's quite a luxuriant paunch he has there.

Mar 17, 2015 at 7:03 PM | Unregistered Commentercheshirered

An all time classic. World class.

Mar 17, 2015 at 7:23 PM | Unregistered CommenterSteve

Should be titled 'the ascent of Mann'

Mar 17, 2015 at 7:26 PM | Unregistered Commenterdennisthemenace

The last one seems an evolutionary mishap but well fed anyway..maybe from an ecological pond shielded from most
averies of nature?

Mar 17, 2015 at 7:29 PM | Unregistered CommenterVenusNotWarmerDueToCO2

BTW, where is his nobel medal/certificate ??

Mar 17, 2015 at 7:34 PM | Unregistered Commenterdennisthemenace

It's gone all pear-shaped for Mann.

Mar 17, 2015 at 8:10 PM | Registered CommenterPhillip Bratby

Utterly disgraceful!
I thought we were all trying to discourage ad Homo sapientem attacks!
But... very, very, funny. Thanks

Mar 17, 2015 at 8:40 PM | Unregistered Commentermothcatcher

Josh....is Mann's right leg a bit of a 'nod' to the HS? I figured it has to be there somewhere. (Then again, a goose-step might be more relevant.....nah, OK, belay that thought).

Mar 17, 2015 at 8:49 PM | Registered CommenterHarry Passfield

it almost seems that Steve is trying to goad Weaver into suing him.

absolutely not. I don't want to be bothered. I'm writing about Weaver because i think that the result was unjust and am doing what I can to oppose an unjust decision.

I take great care to avoid factual mistakes and generally avoid over-editorializing. I try not to leave targets. If you see any errors or over-editorializing, please let me know so that I can correct them. Most of the lawsuits could have been avoided or been easier to deal with had the authors taken microscopically more care.

In the case of the cartoon, there's an on point precedent involving a cartoon of a premier in B.C. and I'm 100% certain that the cartoon is bulletproof.

Brilliant!
As always.
Keep up the great work.

Nothing hurts so much as ridicule- my sides nearly split.

So the theory is that man has evolved to cope with climate change in the past? So why can't man adapt to climate change now? Why should man instead mitigate to cope with all this recent climate change?

Mar 17, 2015 at 9:43 PM | Unregistered CommenterSadButMadLad

Goose-stepping. Nice job.

dodgy geezer: Don't worry, I am fairly sure that on April the first there will be a new media scare story about impending climate disasters.

Fantastic, Josh.

Mar 18, 2015 at 12:14 AM | Unregistered Commenteresmiff

I see that Josh is correctly labeled. but is he supposed to devolve from Mann on his mother's or his father's side ?

Mar 18, 2015 at 12:30 AM | Unregistered CommenterRussell

Mann?
Josh made it quite clear from his labelling that it was Man. Where on earth did you get Mann from/
Was it a Fraudian slip on your part?

Mar 18, 2015 at 1:47 AM | Unregistered CommenterRoyFOMR

Endomorphs and ectomorphs make excellent phenotypical sense in terms of heat transfer in cold and hot climates I.

Perhaps should start by modeling a spherical economist , as they're easy to draw .

Mar 18, 2015 at 4:29 AM | Unregistered CommenterRussell

Human angst, gloom begets doom, all of it is self induced, a collective madness and the God's look down.

Josh's wry depiction of the future of the human race, from sleek bodies tempered in battle hunter gatherer warriors........ to fat arrogant know nothing tubs of lard.

The near future dawns bleak and soon thereafter will come the extinction of possibly the only cognizant self aware beings in the universe, it is not funny - because we write our own script.

Mar 18, 2015 at 7:20 AM | Unregistered CommenterAthelstan.

The cartoon is brilliant.

Andrew Weaver not so. Well informed sources say that of all the spaghettis in the IPCC's GCM graph, the one produced by the Weaver lab at UVic is found in the upper reaches, the furthest from reality.

Weaver has since taken a leave of absence from his university position and now sits as the only Green Party member in the British Columbia [Canada] legislature.....

Need we say more?

Mar 18, 2015 at 7:52 AM | Unregistered Commentertetris

With all the global warming that we are going to experience it will be far to hot for anyone to wear clothes!

Mar 18, 2015 at 8:08 AM | Unregistered CommenterRoy

Excellent cartoon. My only thought was that it should be the other way around with Mann morphing into the monkey.

Mar 18, 2015 at 9:15 AM | Unregistered CommenterStu

Excellent cartoon. My only thought was that it should be the other way around with Mann morphing into the monkey.

I would laugh but.................

When we should all know better but on surveying, witnessing the current and infinite wanton depravity of the hateful deeds of mankind, [perhaps] were are actually regressing. Technologically speaking - certainly the green agenda takes us all back - surely it would make the great inventors and engineers of the Victorian era to think that, we have collectively as a nation, as a race - taken leave of our senses.

Mar 18, 2015 at 9:57 AM | Unregistered CommenterAthelstan.

Having studied the cartoon a bit more I have come to the conclusion that it is not in agreement with the latest climate models. Everybody knows that average human height as been increasing gradually since Victorian times. This height increase is obviously caused by man-made CO2 emissions. What other explanation is possible?

Therefore, since our CO2 emissions are now out of control, evolution will undergo a quantum leap from Man to Mann. The proportions are fine, Josh (actually I should use the word "correct" rather than "fine" because there is nothing fine about the figure) but the height should be noticeably greater.

Since the ultimate figure is shorter not taller, we can take it that Josh harbours a degree of scepticism about the finer details of the theory of Catastrophic Climate Change Induced Human Evolution.

There is one reason the Guardian has promoted global warming. Massive advertising revenue from Shell and HSBC carbon trading.

Captured Guardian

Update 15 February – it has just been stated by HSBC in the Treasury Select Committee meeting today that the Guardian is the biggest recipient of digital advertising revenue from HSBC.

I have been saying for some time that the reason the Guardian don’t report this massive fraud is because of their financial connections with HSBC. The Chair of the Scott Trust, owners of the Guardian is Liz Forgan. She is also a patron of charity St Giles Trust, which recently benefited from a £30m donation by HSBC. That of course may be purely coincidental.

But I have just found this in the Guardian Media Group’s financial results for the year ended 2014, which I think leaves little doubt as to why they won’t report the fraud (click to enlarge):

ZT:

Surely a different branch of the animal kingdom: isn't it a Pachauriderm, or a Pachysaurus caelum?

Mar 18, 2015 at 12:33 PM | Unregistered CommenterIt doesn't add up...

Weaver seems a full blown kook. "Evolution" does not seem likely to be a rational adverb for "Climate". Climate does not evolve like life forms do. There is no random mutation, no selection process, no survial of the fittest, no reproduction.
But I guess I must be careful or he will get a judge to decide he has been slandered.
