Worthington loses it
Nov 12, 2013 Climate: Parliament Greens
Take a look at this peformance by Bryony Worthington at the Rushlight awards, a red-carpet event for greens. While you might get the impression you are listening to a slightly immature schoolgirl, you have to remember that this is the woman who wrote the Climate Change Act, possibly the most far-reaching piece of legislation in living memory. Suddenly, the state we are in all starts to make sense.
The bit where she compares Nigel Lawson to a rat (12:00 mins) is simply astonishing.

'Under certain circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer.' Mark Twain
Joyce Grenfell meets Gramsci with a touch of Machiavelli.
What has happened to our country?
This woman has implemented the single most expensive piece of legislation in our history - and not a single person has ever voted for her.
Is she really stupid enough to believe that an Eng Lit grad can uniquely assess the potential & viability of the thorium reactor that engineers & scientists have been working on since the 1960s?
Dim, vain & smug - you can see how a Miliband would be impressed.
O dear, the following is from Wiki, a source I am sure the Baroness consults on a regular basis:-
How can such a constrained, limited, short term experience, qualify a person to produce UK legislation, any legislation, never mind the far, far over-reaching 2008 Act?
What was the end of the speech? "I don't get out much". Wrong tense, there is a very real and increasingly depressed world desperately awaiting Baroness Worthington's initial excursion.
Holy cow! That has to be the worst public performance outside a junior school forcing kids to read at assembly. I had to take my shoes off for fear my toes would curl right through them.
Losing it is right - you ain't half cruel digging up this vid Bish ;)
The rat reference certainly is a departure from the norms you would expect from a Baroness, especially when referring to a fellow peer, but the whole "speech" was bizarre and surreal. It mostly seemed she was making it up as she went along. I got the feeling she had a bullet list of about 3 points she was haplessly riffing around. She didn't seem drunk.
I mean WTF was she on about with Newt Gringrich? "You can write it off as a crazy plan of a man who has an old babies face" ! Lol.
The one bit that made me sit up and stop cringing (and where she seemed to talk a little more smoothly) was when she was sucking up to room - round 7:10. After first reassuring this audience of teat suckers (back in 2011) that even Tony Abbott wont amend carbon floor pricing she talks about the Global Green Network in these terms:
I mean what other sector could this reassurance of subsidies and policies be flatly offered to an industry by a politician like this? Pharma or armaments maybe?
An elected HoL has to be better than this.
Good grief.
We're doomed.
Interesting that she describes the group as "Prodigious":
prodigious
prəˈdɪdʒəs/
adjective
adjective: prodigious
1.
remarkably or impressively great in extent, size, or degree.
"the stove consumed a prodigious amount of fuel"
2.
archaic
unnatural or abnormal.
"rumours of prodigious happenings, such as monstrous births"
Rather than "prestigious"
prestigious
prɛˈstɪdʒəs/
adjective
adjective: prestigious
1.
inspiring respect and admiration; having high status.
"a prestigious academic post"
Thus they were a large crowd who may have been unnatural or abnormal and by default (or by omission) deserve no respect. So perhaps she did speak some sense after-all.....
If you turn the sound off and watch the hand waving it tells you something about her.
Ratbag Baroness Worthington:
“Now I would like to end with just a few words about climate sceptics. They are a rare breed. But hum... a few of them have made their home in the rather plush surroundings of the House of Lords. I mean to be fair we have a moth and a rat problem as well! It takes all sorts. I really shouldn’t compare Lord Lawson to a rat. If we could forget that... that happened?”
No, Baroness Worthington, we won't forget it.
If this is a peer of the realm then time to scrap the HoL!
What a foolish and amateurist presentation. The lady is a wisdom and charisma-free zone.
Oh dear,
What a babbling fool.
She reminded me of every unfunny comedian I've had to endure.
"She left to form Sandbag in 2008."
sandbagging : When a player in any game chooses (on purpose) to not play their best. Normally this is because they are too superior, they want to hustle you, or they are too lazy to play their best with nothing on the line.
Excruciating.
Possibly the most embarrassing talk I've ever seen.
And the worst thing is she has no self awareness and won't realise that and will carry on.
Am I correct that once you're in the HOL you're there for life? Too depressing for words if so.
So her passion is entirely lacking in technical training. She is only repeating what she has been told, or read, about the topic.
How tragic for those she is able to influence. She is essentially a preacher making angry religious sermons to deal with her CO2 obsession.
Marks out of ten?
Well, I'd give her one.
Fnaar, fnaar, etc.
When she pulls out the phrase at about 5mins in "The best was to predict the future is to invent the future"
she then says about the audience that they are "inventing the future"
But what does that means when you realise she also assures them her policies:
"...should make your job easier ... if you are reliant on subsidies or policies or fiscal advantages that the government bring in, that you can feel safe that the rug wont be pulled from underneath you feet...."
Inventing the future apparently means stifling critical voices and creating a client class of gravy train riders both in industry and politics who "invent a future" that cushions inadequates like Worthington against democracy and insulates against scutiny.
Foxgoose --- Joyce Grenfell meets Gramsci with a touch of Machiavelli. ---
Those individuals had talents, for better or worse. I don't know much about Grenfell, but Gramsci and Machiavelli are interesting, reflecting interesting times, even if you don't like the theories they developed.
Worthington, appointed by Miliband -- who also wasn't good enough for democracy, either, and was thus parachuted into one of the safest Labour seats -- epitomises the rule by the utterly talentless.
Machiavelli's concept of Virtu -- spirit, that enables leaders to achieve things -- shines a light on our situation. What spirit do the likes of the Baroness and the Lords populating the CCC posses? Gramsci gives us another clue: cultural hegemony -- a theory about how the political establishment sustains its ideology. You don't have to buy into Machivelli or Gramsci to see that they had a point.
Worthington and Miliband (and the rest) have only a scare story. If only they had as much as Gramsci or Machivelli. At the least it would be interesting. Environmentalism is the ascendency of mediocrity.
Cringeworthington! A truly depressing demonstration of just how far our country has sunk.
The more she mentioned Thorium, the more I thought Lithium.
I'm sure she's a lovely lass and a pleasure to meet but statesmanship is clearly not in her toolkit. That's not her fault but it speaks volumes about our current crop of vacuous politicians that she was selected for such elevation.
I suspect that testosterone had more of a role to play in the backstory to her meteoric rise than careful consideration.
Sigh.
it's not bad sketch,
Sorry, I spend a lot of time outside the UK so I've never seen the character before ..is it Alan Partridge's girlfriend ?
( don't some people think it's too cruel to parody a young politicians like that ?)
..oh it's not a comedy ! ...you mean it's a horror
Jesus. Truly cringeworthy.
She also demonstrates that she has no understanding of Muller and BEST, yet is happy to bring it up as some kind of absolute proof.
This is going to my MP, Albert Owen (Lab. Ynys Mon) and a member of the all party committee on climate change. He may be as thick as a plank but even he will see the problem with this silly and over-influential woman. I will deliver by hand asap ( he lives a mile from me but swans around in London and Cardiff a lot).. Keep you posted.
@Be
Given her rather feeble SOH and lack of comedic ability I think that her reference to BEST was just an excuse to say Koch!
Oozing supreme confidence, though lacking a certain polish - more staccato than rhapsody.
Unhesitating was she and no blushing girl is this, showing impatience, indeed petulance towards mere mortals - they who have the temerity to question the alarmist orthodoxy, alack!
Hands and arms waving about as though in an aerobics class, we marvel at the sheer chutzpah of this young woman, so cocksure is she - on her adopted advocacy, be it that, she has no real expertise or, pertinently - any claim to in depth study of aught of relevance to climate related science.
Grateful are we, she bestrews her pearls of wisdom, all ably learned through long years of back braking toil - skilled works and in relating wondrous new miracles to the peasantry - though it be, they'd filch thy pocket! But much good it would fashion in the world which "ye be telled is burning", aye! It came to pass - and lo and behold, would we all be saved from ourselves, hell fire and damnation - if we only turned more green.
Ordered by his masters from afar, did Ed the Red draw a up charter and Blessed Bryony did help in the draft because she was a messenger of green evil tidings and nothing more. All in a trice, and not in the fullness of time [about 2 minutes later so it seemed ] so elevated was she above all commoners and into the land of milk and honey and knuckling forelocks, do we lowly taxpayers rejoice in this! For she is now the wise one, how in her glory she is feted by the noblemen, the likes of such sages as Johnny Prescott and Lord of the valley's and windbaggery Kinnochio.
So listen up! Bryony, is going to tell the world how to bleed the body [you and me] till it can offer no more - then she'll have a pound of flesh - from all of you - you see there are so many people waiting for a slice of you:
source.
Meanwhile, hidden unseen in the scuppers the rats gnaw away at 'their' sheets. Needles, sharp toothed, they're a tough lot are the realist rats - survivors and we have a hero too he's called Nigel - Lord Lawson to you lot.
So she thought Tony Abbott wasn't to be worried about. How utterly utterly wrong she was, and how compketely right Abbott's gov't is to effectively boycott the Warsaw climate talks - because they're too busy repealing the Carbon Tax.
I wouldn't trust this woman to punch tickets on a travelling Chinese brothel.
Can you imagine quite how smug this ennobled activist and her scientifically clueless acolytes (yes, you DECC) would be if there had been even a single example of a cooler object causing an already warmer object to become even warmer?
Specifically, in the absence of a new energy source, a cooler sky/atmosphere is simply unable to cause an already warmer surface to become even warmer. Ever.
Read this article by astrophysicist Joe Postma to see him explain that the radiative atmospheric greenhouse effect is a plain old fraud, which depends upon public and media ignorance (yes, you Harrabin), conflation of terms and endless analogies - but no adherence to the Laws of Thermodynamics.
He disproves the atmospheric GHE in numerous ways. Scroll back through his articles for alternative ways to debunk the 'cold makes warm warmer' fiction.
She is fronting a massive Ponzi wealth transfer scheme, which takes money from the least well off and gives it to the richest, namely, banks, energy companies, stock exchanges and not least, governments. Meanwhile, the planet's temperature will be continue to be determined by solar activity, with a bit of geothermal in the mix. SCAM.

Don't put your daughter in the Lords Mrs Worthington
Well the melons won't be feeling any heat from the climate, so they're feeling the heat of being caught in the scam.
The Baroness reminds me of Canada's Green Party leader, Elizabeth May - see her after my interview on CTV here: http://video.theloop.ca/watch/-/2679336700001
Tom
Baroness Worthless opens her mouth and lets the humor fly.
I had heard of her, but never seen her in action before. Talk about cringe-making. Just dreadful.
The Joyce Grenfell simile is very apt - although JG was only acting. This seems to have been for real. Ouch!
How many box tops do you have to save to get an English literature degree these days? She doesn't even seem to have much in the way of brains. I really doubt that she wrote the Climate Change Act. I'm guessing that she babbled some empty rhetoric at the legal drafters, who interpreted it as "make it as diabolical as possible" - which they dutifully did.
On a similar vein to how did Bryony Worthington come to be so influential, how did <A href="http://www.castledebates.org.uk/189-kirsty-schneeberger-mbe.html">Kirsty Schneeberger manage to get an MBE by the age of 26 for services to environmental conservation? Perhaps her path of WWF to UK Youth Climate Coalition to DECC explains it...
Didn't she also play Bubble in Absolutely Fabulous?
"The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt." - Bertrand Russell
Good to see that she is in favour of at least some kinds of nuclear power.
As for the rest ..
Others have mentioned that she's misinterpreted BEST. To be fair, Muller has done little to correct the media's misinterpretation of their work.
She also appears to be unaware that the US military have a plan for every imaginable eventuality, however unlikely. They have a plan for Canada attacking the USA. They have a plan for Colorado seceding from the union. Of course they have plans for various climate disasters and the like.
Words fail.
After watching that, I have some advice for UK residents.
Emigrate.

Sorry. Australia is full.
@ ZT
Didn't she also play Bubble in Absolutely Fabulous?
--------------------------------------
Unfair, ZT.
Bubble had more self-awareness.
sHx is joking (I hope). We would welcome the tired huddled masses fleeing the yoke of the EU and crippling energy prices. Good weather, a sound economy - despite the depredations of the ousted Labor vandals - and a government that supports individual effort. Come one, come all!
johanna, honey, you know it was in jest. Rick Bradford is a long term fellow resident of mine on BH and is known to me as a bit of a right wing crank and a cucumber to boot. I just couldn't resist the temptation. The devil made me do it.
It really is true that greens have no sense of humor. She tried to crack a few jokes in the beginning and received total silence. Only on two jokes there was a bit of laughter. Heck, people didn't even laugh when she told them that she's going to tell a joke!
I dread the day when we are ruled by that bunch of people. I'd rather be ruled by Mr. Bean!
A real drama green.
Gawd help us.
Comedy green!
Hunter S. Thompson got it right:
I am a male feminist believing women in work should be judged by their brain and capabilities, and get an equal chance in all things. But I can't help feeling this one was 'elevated to the lords' for being pretty and bubbly.
With stunning irony, she jokes that Lord Prescott routinely makes verbal mistakes and has trouble completing a full sentence.
Some sort of mistake has been made. The opening title is The Rushlight Awards. Obviously this was "The Lush Girth Awards."
During the mid-nineteenth century when New Zealand was experimenting with parliamentary democracy, an Upper House was tried, briefly, but rejected as being unworkable in the long term. How far-sighted those early settlers were. To think that this potty-mouthed, vacuous creature was seen by the Labour establishment as worthy of enobling makes me very glad my antecedents fled the UK in favour of New Zealand during the Colonial era.
Amazing, the bareface lies they tell to rewrite history, the Koch Bros - evil oil Barons paid skeptic physicist to disprove global warming, ha ha.
I've a feeling this is all going to get nasty in the forseeable future.
Nice quote, JJ.
In the zeitgeist that Thompson refers to, merit was irrelevant. Indeed, frequently the concept of merit was derided as elitist, hierarchical and oppressive. It was always dishonest, though - while genuinely great things, like Jimi Hendrix's guitar playing, were worshiped, the gurus also pretended that anybody's inept strumming had immense value.
It was a lot of fun, and I count myself lucky to have caught the tail end of it. But the time comes when we have to put away childish things. Sadly, many of my cohort were so mesmerised by it that they never did.
The CAGW tsunami has peaked, and is receding. We need to be on the lookout for the next one. Perhaps Mike Hulme could assist?
Geoff Sherrington - mallee or otherwise?
The Leopard,
To be fair to the pharma and weapons industry they at least produce products people want and are useful.

Mailman
Its was a call to the faithful and reassurance that the AGW bucket their feeding out of is going no where .
Lets hope she is wrong in that for its people like her that really do need to be taken off the public funded gravy train.
