Cryptic

Something interesting going on at WUWT...

What we really need is for FOIA to publish more (or passwords) simultaneously with WUWT's major announcement, then just about all the speculation will be covered. That would be a day to remember!

WUWT has updated

UPDATE 7/27/12 1:30PM PST: See my additional comments below

Jul 27, 2012 at 10:23 PM | Unregistered CommenterAnoneumouse

What about a proof of cold fusion? Certainly it would be controversial but if Anthony has proven it, it would be important as it could render the whole CAGW imbroglio moot. "Unprecedented" might be questionable, however. There certainly have been claims before which didn't check out.

Jul 27, 2012 at 10:23 PM | Unregistered CommenterDave Dardinger

I can't help thinking (or commenting) that his ecclesistical highness would not tease us like this. I suppose that such a delayed announcement is however certainly unprecedented (from decent sceptics) and it is rather controversial to have such a delay!

Jul 27, 2012 at 10:24 PM | Unregistered CommenterIan E

With Anthony's update that intends to dampen the fires of speculation, I will stand down happily.

There were some insightful speculations . . . Thanks to the Bish for the opportunity.

It is a shame that Anthony has toned down his announcement because I have belly laughed my way through all the posts on here and was hoping it would get even wilder before Sunday ^.^

Jul 27, 2012 at 10:24 PM | Registered CommenterDung

OK, so it's not CG-3, but, Mr. Evans, it will NOT be "lame". In some quarters it is going to represent a very real "Oh, shit!" moment. Timing is everything.

Jul 27, 2012 at 10:27 PM | Unregistered CommenterRobert E. Phelan

[from update at WUWT}:

Second, my announcement has nothing to do with FOIA issues or other sorts of political or social theories being bandied about on other blogs.

It does however have something to do with one of my many projects, it is still a “major announcement” and it has important implications that I’m sure everyone will want to know about.

Ok, my last rampant speculation, then maybe it's something related to surface temp records..... things are either better or worse than he thought. But it has to be something rather specific and conclusive to claim important, unprecedented, controversial, and of broad "global" interest for media and all. More definite evidence for or against something claimed in the past.... ?

Now I will be silent until Sunday...!

Damn. Anthony has seemingly just punctured a lot of balloons. What projects does he have that could possibly be of such moment to justify his initial post? It'd better be good, for Anthony's own sake. If not, he could end up severely damaging his street cred. I do hope it's not a lack of judgement and that there's really something there worth all the hype.

Jul 27, 2012 at 10:38 PM | Unregistered CommenterMichael Larkin

Dash it, I had come to the thread late, and had just switched on my speculation circuits and turned the power up to 11, then read the update. Still, the read through all the sites was fun.

Sky is clear here tonight for the first time for about a month, so I think I'll get the telescope out and have a shufti to see if the stars are still there.

[Actually, if anyone's interested and the sky's still clear at 0355 in the morning (BST) there looks to be a very pretty view of the ISS flying past Venus and Jupiter in the dawn sky].

Anthony's update may just be to throw us off the trail.

Maybe he has discovered beetle larvae has been eating the missing heat in the deep ocean and have tunneled through under the Arctic causing a total collapse of the ice sheet, well 97%. He needs time to get approval for his government grants before releasing the results that these beetle larvae will cause an increase in CO2 and cause global warming and the ice to melt and the sea to rise..

Rummor has it that little old gov moonbeam has commisioned A.W. to build low flow fire trucks to go along with Athonys low flow fire hydrants in order to save money and pay for the high speed train to nowhere.

Jul 27, 2012 at 10:51 PM | Unregistered CommenterJeff

Perhaps one of his weather gadgets or software has been picked by a government agency for a project.

Anthony's post that precedes his announcement to suspend blogging until Sunday references his surface station project. Maybe it has now been completed or perhaps thinking bigger, has found funding to be expanded into other countries.

OK I sense (in the tea leaves) a merger between two skeptic blogs. I mean when was the last time the Bish snipped anyone?? This fits in with Anthony and his pressure of work and life balance problems right? his grace and Anthony are in negotiations as we post!
OK now all I have to do is figure out how that fits in with the aliens in his back garden.

Well, SOMETHING IS HAPPENING at WUWT and one thinks it must be a certain Phil Jones who doesn't know what is is, because:

You walk into the room
With your pencil in your hand
You see somebody naked
And you say, “Who is that man?”
You try so hard
But you don’t understand
Just what you’ll say
When you get home

Because something is happening here
But you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

You raise up your head
And you ask, “Is this where it is?”
And somebody points to you and says
“It’s his”
And you say, “What’s mine?”
And somebody else says, “Where what is?”
And you say, “Oh my God
Am I here all alone?”

Because something is happening here
But you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

You hand in your ticket
And you go watch the geek
Who immediately walks up to you
When he hears you speak
And says, “How does it feel
To be such a freak?”
And you say, “Impossible”
As he hands you a bone

Because something is happening here
But you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

You have many contacts
Among the lumberjacks
To get you facts
When someone attacks your imagination
But nobody has any respect
Anyway they already expect you
To just give a check
To tax-deductible charity organizations

You’ve been with the professors
And they’ve all liked your looks
With great lawyers you have
Discussed lepers and crooks
You’ve been through all of
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s books
You’re very well read
It’s well known

Because something is happening here
But you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

Well, the sword swallower, he comes up to you
And then he kneels
He crosses himself
And then he clicks his high heels
And without further notice
He asks you how it feels
And he says, “Here is your throat back
Thanks for the loan”

Because something is happening here
But you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

Now you see this one-eyed midget
Shouting the word “NOW”
And you say, “For what reason?”
And he says, “How?”
And you say, “What does this mean?”
And he screams back, “You’re a cow
Give me some milk
Or else go home”

Because something is happening here
But you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

Well, you walk into the room
Like a camel and then you frown
You put your eyes in your pocket
And your nose on the ground
There ought to be a law
Against you comin’ around
You should be made
To wear earphones

Because something is happening here
But you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

Jul 28, 2012 at 2:15 AM | Unregistered CommenterMarkus

Well, that was an anticlimax

This was not something of global importance, but something that is important to Watts the scale of which may be global. Like say, a climate paper (since it concerns the climate of the globe).

This is the category almost every climate science paper would fall into.

If that is the case, all I can say is, it is never a good idea to be one's own publicist.

shub: I have a sort of anecdotal story. I brake for tailgaters. About 20 years ago I was tooling up I-287 at about 20 over the limit when some blonde roared up behind me to within about a car length. B'gawd if another car roared up behind her and took the same position. For one fleeting instant I had the urge to hit the brake and then the gas and leave a pile of smoking wreckage behind.

It's just an anecdote.

Key word: announcement, f.ex. announcing a new website on a different platform. WUWT is controversial, it attracts interest globally every day, and going all in with a new commercial platform would be, well..unprecedented.

He states "something has happened", perhaps a deal has been finalized setting up a joint venture of some sort?

"I greatly appreciate all the concern and interest, and I look forward to being able to share all my work on Sunday."

It would make sense to have all moderators etc working up to deadline to get everything ready before sunday.

Why the big mystery? To get everyone's attention and minimize confusion during transition to the new site.

Just my 2 cents.

Jul 28, 2012 at 4:22 AM | Unregistered CommenterYpsilon

Anthony has done his best to damp down wild speculation about WUWT's 2-day hiatus - nothing to do with FOIA, politics etc- check out his cautionary note for yourselves on WUWT.

Could this be the advent of the bane of amatuer barometrists, the long suspected Urban Height Island effect?

Far from siting their home barometers at sea level the co-oerative dwelling denizens of the GISS collective have installed them in the elitist upper west side high rises in which they dwell.

Wattergate witl reveal the final fatal flaw in warmist watermelonism, the thrirty third, or is it thirty-fourth such enormity WUWT has uncovered, or recovered, or wallked back from in the genearl direction of the setting iron sun. I can hardly wait for the 36th & 37th. Or is it 38th & 39th ?

It is so obvious, I am surprised most have not figured it out. Al Gore has offered Anthony a weatherman job on Current TV.

Actually I think it has to do with his stations web site.

The only possible reason I can see for the black-out is that Anthony has been chosen as Mitt Romney's running mate.

(Do I need to state that this is humor?)

Jul 28, 2012 at 6:15 AM | Unregistered CommenterRhoda Ramirez

Having read the above comments and checked the schedule of events, may I offer a possible conclusion:

- On 18th July, the Norfolk police close the investigation. Despite failing to find a hacker, they state this was indeed a hacking. My own speculation: the police took the university's word for it, but FOIA knows it was an inside job, his/her own, and contemplates owing up for the sake of exposing both the university and the police.
- On 22nd July, Watts announces light posting for 7-10 days, as he was working on an important project. My own speculation: FOIA has consulted Watts, who is organizing for him/her a press conference online and maybe also in real.
- Watts then gives advance warning for an important announcement exactly a week later, on 29th July. He gives a specific time and invites media outlets to check in. In my view, the said press conference.

That's what I'm thinking. A new, independent global climate network, with temperature, humidity, and wind data, and [snipping] in [snip][snip]...

Or maybe it's...oh, wait, that's it!! A new...but I can't possibly tell you. You'll all have to wait 'til Sunday. Hint: It has something to do with computers.

I have no idea what Anthony is going to do, but whatever it is, it will not slay the Dragon that is the Great Global Warming Scare, too many people, scientifically, socially and financially have made personal investments in the GGWS for the Dragon to be slain with a single blow. So don't get too excited, we are in a long war of attrition where victory will look like people telling us, in embarrassed tines it's still real but there are more important things to do with our time and money.
