Commenting, captcha and coming onboard
The irritations of comment moderation and captcha should, I hope, now be a thing of the past. It is now possible to register as a commenter on the site, enabling you to bypass captcha and moderation. If you are already a subscriber, your existing membership will do this for you and you need take no further steps.
Your username can be a pseudonym if you like, and should be a pseudonym if you are concerned about privacy.
There is a registration link in the navigation bar to the right, or click here.

Dreadnought. I just replied to the email you sent, but it is bouncing. I have manually confirmed your account, so you should be able to log in now.

Oh the benefits of registration, completely captcha free....
Shame that spaces aren't allowed in profile names and I presume neither are capitals, still it's better than
post normal communicationsTwitter! Therefore, when the New York entertainment attorney hears the Chelsea-based New York writer saying "I 'copyrighted' my novel by registering it with the Library of Congress and the Copyright Office in Washington, D.C.", the writer is usually operating under a mistaken set of geographic and legal assumptions. It is incumbent upon entertainment lawyers to correct those assumptions.
This one is a particularly difficult myth to explode - because members of Congress, those that write and edit case law, and a few jurisprudential scholars have been known to use "copyrighted" as a verb form, too. When I hear it, it sounds to me like nails on a chalkboard.
yay!

Seems to work! Great!!
A revision made after posting...
Hmmm ... OK ... here I am ... but how/where do I find my member profile so that I can go back to being Hilary Ostrov (which it didn't seem to like when I registered)?
Latest post on my blog, which may be of interest is Probing Pachauri's pontifications ... in which I highlight an excellent article by Tony Thomas in Quadrant.
Oh, wow! I can even revise my comment!
2nd revsion, OK ... now I'm me ... but profile doesn't seem to allow me to plug my blog! Oh, well c'est la vie en sqarespace
Cool cool...
I was checking the profile, and apparently I can only link to a website if I am anonymous. Shouldn't it me the other way around.
And just for interest, I can't seem to find any contact details for anyone else.
Can anyone see my real name or contact me?
[I'm adding this on to see if I can revise comments]
OK, spotted the link
... and Email between members appears to be working.

14 min for re-editing? That seems cool. I definitely need it. I goof up all the time.
Lets see if somebody can comment as me after I've registered...
Apparently they can.
If you hover over the little icon next to the name it tells you they are registered or unregistered
I'm an imposter.

Hilary
You're not allowed to be Hilary Ostrov; you have to be HilaryOstrov. The computer says so.
Given the amount of computing power available in an appliance I can hide in my hand I get intensely pissed off with machines that insist on dictating what you call yourself because they can't handle spaces or digits or have some other quirky method of proving they are in charge.
The wonders of modern technology, when can we add extended hyper text and graphics?
Great! It works. And being able to edit comments is useful.
The easiest registration evah!
Afternoon. Jeff bin in?
It helps if you validate the logon details and sign in.. doh.

Yes - the account is there, so I don't know why you don't have it. Check you spam. Email if necessary.
OK, my turn to test!
Fun and games!Hooray it works!!Nice to be able to make changes.
I am onboard. Heave to, me hearties....aarrrrr.
A celebratory limerick.
To a fearsome jail like San Quentins
Dr.Gleick may be sent for his sins
His supporters all scream
"He took one for the team"
He'll be taking it soon in the twins
Yay! Fixed, thanks your worship.
So long Captcha, my spelling is bad enough without extra training in how to speel rongly ;)

Well done Bish!
Only goes to show that there is no alternative to cooking with gas!
Coo, I feel a sense of belonging.
*update* and the ability to fix typos
I am the real Peter Gleick and I faked the Heartland strategy memo. Honestly I did it. I'd do it again for the cause.
"the ability to fix typos"
Jeep doy...
Captha problems for me weren't in speeling wongly, I often couldn't read the capcha at all!
I am Peter Gleick!
No, I am Peter Gleick!
I am Peter Gleick too.
Evidently sockpuppetry won't be easy. If I change my display name, the author names of my previous comments change as well.
I think this is what TerryS tested earlier.
I'd better revert to my original moniker lest I be confused with the real Peter Gleick.
O/T, but interesting. Has anyone noted the lastest Gruaniad TV ad. It seems that they are not just satisfied with telling fairytales about AGW, but are now rewriting fairytales, claiming that the three little pigs framed the big bad wolf, haha.

Yarrr! It works.
I'm not sure whether this works but we'll try it.
... and no it doesn't.
I can't register as Mike Jackson because I'm not allowed to use spaces. How come you guys are allowed to?
Mike, you register as mikejackson then you edit your profile using the black box that comes up top right, to make your displayed name whatever you like.
If you hover the mouse over people's displayed name you get their registered username. Some people might want to be aware of that (eg Green Sand).
@mikejackson ;)
You can edit your display name if you click on 'edit profile' after you've logged in. Try Peter Gleick if you like. :D
Thanks, fellas! I'm not at my best — long week and other things. Better tomorrow!!!

I've been 'activated'.

Other than not logging in, is there any way to suppress that?

"If you hover the mouse over people's displayed name you get their registered username. Some people might want to be aware of that (eg Green Sand)."
Thanks Paul, but I can't see any details other than my user name "Green Sand"
Can you or anybody else please check for me?
