Bit distracted

I'm a bit distracted by other things at the moment. Normal service will resume soon.

Ok, we looked at ducks as a means of measuring sealevel.

Someone else did try tree rings for temperature records

Any other daft ideas

The correlation between teenage pregnancies and CO2 levels looks good

I love this exchange:

I do cover Mann's 2008 paper in the book. I think it's fair to say that this is a paper with almost as many problems as the Hockey Stick itself.

Such as?

The problems were use of contaminated lake sediments and their interpretation in the opposite orientation to the original authors. Use of old version of Tornetrask. Use of Yamal instead of the Polar Urals update. Truncation of the decline in Briffa's MXD series plus use of an infilling algorithm to replace the truncated decline with an incline. I think there were others too.

A thought occurred to me that I wanted to share and I wasn't really sure where I could post it. I chose here because the thread is very short and there does not appear to be a topic that I could be accused of being off. The thought was regarding Carl Sagan's Balony Detection Kit. I think that Sagan was quite concerned about AGW and no-one can say whether he would have remained so had he lived longer. However, in his book 'The Demon Haunted World' he produced his Balony Detection Kit and I thought that it would be worth revisiting this and applying it to AGW alarmism.

It appears to me that quite a lot of the points apply.

Well vegetables, in general, grow and multiply better with CO2 in surplus.
so why would it be different in Glastonberry ?

Bish, this seemed a fairly appropriate thread to voice my gratitude to you and whoever helps you for the manner in which you steer and manage this blog. I humbly doffs me lid.

Bish, not many blogs have such a consistent level of good humour and wit as this one. The very opposite of the nasty and frequently foul-mouthed rants that one is subjected to in the Grauniad's CiF if one dares to proffer a view contrary to the perceived wisdom there. The very idea of posters attempting to write limericks on a theme must surely be an indicator of the level of gentility and intelligence here; Many years ago in a university tutorial, our tutor defined wit as 'the ability to turn a metaphor'. I have not found a better definition since and enjoy the numerous examples displayed here and I am grateful.
