House hearings on Oxburgh

The US House of Representatives Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming has been having hearings on Climategate and more particularly the Oxburgh report. In the words of the committee's web page.

The scientists addressed the claims of deniers head-on. Thursday’s panel featured a member of the investigative panel convened by the University of East Anglia and led by Lord Ron Oxburgh to review the stolen emails from that school’s Climactic Research Unit. The “Oxburgh Inquiry” exonerated the scientists who were attacked following the emails, saying they “saw no evidence of any deliberate scientific malpractice in any of the work.”

They did say that didn't they? I guess what you see is very much driven by where you look.

I'll try to get a look at the presentations when I get a minute. In the meantime, it's remarkable to compare the House Committee's take on Oxburgh with Joe Farman's from the previous post.

I must have missed the Oxburgh report the House is discussing.
The one that most people have read has nothing in common with the report Oxburgh recently produced about the CRU.
I would love to read a report that does what is described in your exceprt.
Let me know when one is, please.

'They did say that didn't they?'

Another example of the Mandy Rice Davies effect?

Glad to see the Chairman of the committe is studiously impartial...

Based on over 150 years of scientific research, a clear picture has emerged of rising temperatures, increased droughts, severe rainstorms, and an acidifying ocean.

Those who deny global warming point to past uncertainties that have been refuted. They ignore the overwhelming observational evidence that the increased levels of heat-trapping pollution are already warming the planet. Instead of trying to understand the science, they use stolen emails about analysis of tree rings in Siberia to turn an honest discussion into a Russian Tree Ring Circus. Or they manufacture a cooling trend by cherry picking a few years out of a longer record of warming temperatures."

Plagiarism? Nah, just a coincidence, I am sure. There is no way this is being coordinated by someone with big bucks to be made -- NO WAY!

As you may guess, I found Dr. Farman less than sincere.

They need the tax money, or so they think.

US Representatives! Representing who, representing what?
The tone of their pontifications is truly appalling! The verbal venom that they employ to demonize those who dare to challenge the tenets of their faith is, literally, breath-taking.
Quoting Lord Oxburgh who, IMO, was presented with an income-boosting, prestige-conferring and predetermined template that was guaranteed to be a no-risk sinecure.
How the noble Lord must be rueing his acceptance of this particular poisoned chalice!
I do not envy him. History, will judge him harshly. The acting under orders defence provides as little legitimacy to the Duped as it does to the Dupers!
His Sherlockian examination of the 'non-crime' scenes to exonerate those whom he was charged to judge will provide endless amusement for Historians in waiting.
Herr Hitler got the trains to run on time ergo he was good for Germany. Sorry mate, it doesn't work for him, it doesn't work for Jones et Al and, far more importantly, shouldn't taint the thinking of representatives of the "Land of the Free"

Pathetic, this statement by Rep. Markey could have been written by a 6th grader who neglected to study for a paper and resorted to B S ing his way through!
