Have you noticed that the BBC is now reporting both sides of the argument ?
It's all down to recent changes the DG made to BBC Editorial Guidelines ... adding an extra sentence.
No ?
... So are you saying you don't believe in the Sanity Clause ?

Is it known whether their costs are part of monitoring sealevel rise?

Blackpool neach safety
Council often talks about beach management. The beaches almost lost clean rating in 2013

The use of Nonscience to ban stuff in the EU, and the USA, has led to problems for taxpayers, producers and consumers, without any benefit.
If Trump disinvests from the US EPA, their EU counterparts are going to find themselves without corroborating US NonScience. Political NonScience could struggle to survive without political support. This should be a great improvement for those with real jobs.

Jumping in a part of the sea that you are not familiar with always has an element of risk.
As I am perhaps too fond of saying - "if you do not pay attention - undesirable outcomes are more likely to occur"
I'm sure the council could've paid some folk handsomely for a few hours overtime and used the event for publicity / informational purposes - which would've been an improvement on what's gone down.
In the risk averse culture banning things tends to be counter productive as the basturbators always overdo the actual risk. Teaching people situational awareness is quite important.
Situational awareness might have saved these guys a bit further up the coast.

Brighton & Hove's seafront is the city's largest entertainment venue offering 11 kilometres of entertainment and activities, many of which are free. The seafront is managed by the Seafront Office."
"Seafront development projects total over one billion pounds."
Without the Council "Seafront Office" interfering Brighton may rival Blackpool

@stew
It's always spoilsport until it's your kid they bring back in a body bag. Authorities impose safety lines for sake of your family.
Brighton Swimming Club is a group of like minded individuals. It is not an "Official Swimming Club".
The phrases you are overlooking: "Parental Responsibility" and "Personal Responsibility".
The state should not be attempting to eradicate all risk. Every activity has a risk/reward ratio. If one calculates badly, death may occur. That's life (or death). It happens. Darwinian natural selection.
Stew, you have been world touring, did you have a taxpayer funded jobsworth following you everywhere and stopping you doing anything risky?
