Twitter shows me they've worked as a pair a long time at least 2014 : @SnowDragonII ..@BagheeraSailing

@GC I wonder if the yacht teams are bound by a Green dogma non-disclosure agreement

BTW Thw thing about the WUWT report is the ice mass graphic which shows the measure of their deception.
So surely the skippers knew from the outset they'd get nowhere near the pole.

@gc

If I was the vessel owner I would not labour the point about ice ....

= we'll go as far as skipper and your insurance is willing.

I have had a little experience with this and it's amusing to see blowhard gung-ho folk when asked to sign a document taking full responsibility :-)

The expedition yachts used are:

It would be interesting to know when the professional yachtsmen/women realised that Pen Hadow's mission was unachievable. Perhaps even before they set off?

With favourable winds (and/or lots of diesel) their maximum speed would have been about 200 miles per 24 hours, similar to "Northabout", another 50ish foot yacht, but none of these boats was designed to hit any thickness of sea ice at any speed.

Yachtman's experience was key last time with the Northern passage trip
At the end of it the he didn't have the same cockiness that it would be so easy, realising that they had made it only by skin of their teeth ..and maybe that without icebreakers sometimes breaking sea in front of them they wouldn't have made it ,

Note Paul's story from a few days ago about the PolarRow where the Rowers are awaiting rescue but not admitting failure really.

Pen Hadow has given up trying to sail to the North Pole.

The BBC has not provided this story the same publicity as they did when he set off.

If Pen Hadow announced that next year he was going to sail to the South Pole, I am sure someone in the BBC would want to provide his sponsors with free publicity, in the name of climate science.

I presume that the owners and skippers of the two yachts chartered for the trip had more experience of weather forecasting in the Arctic than the expert climate scientists, and decided that their lives were worth more than cheap publicity.

Times frontage "EU wants billions in foreign aid"
This £90bn Magic Money Hole that the EU says we have to fill cos commitments have been made to third party countries.

Also "innovative enterprise's and GREEN infrastructure in EU regions" a €6.4bn EU total.

"79% of those deaths are in Asia, 67% in India/China"

..... and their sources for this information are speculative guesswork?

Sep 1, 2017 at 12:52 PM | Unregistered Commentergolf charlie

I believe much of "scientists say" stuff in newspapers is merely shoddy student work elevated disproportionately cos it suits political agendas and ongoing pet issues within the media.
And often it's merely interpretation of someone else's research.

The strangely named York University Stockholm Environment Institute just released this story where the take away is
''Oh scary, ozone pollution caused by cars causes much more deaths than we expected, 1m premature/year !'

#1 It's misleading to not emphasize proper contexts
- that 1m is worldwide
- 79% of those deaths are in Asia, 67% in India/China
#2 Deaths , is a dead giveaway to BS science
The number doesn't differentiate between old & young
The correct measure is QALDs lifedays.
#3 middle of report mentions super wide error bars
Likewise , beginning doesn't say they mean ground level ozone not high level.

@gc
we are almost at the point of "Trump causes global warming" - the anti Trump deranged "climate attribution" stuff has already started.

How much US Taxpayers money is spent on finding evidence of global warming through various different agencies and universities, yet Mann is still reluctant to give evidence in court?

"Trump ends global warming", by simply reducing the supply of money, for dodgy science and attributions, would be an interesting headline to read.
