50K tonnes seems like quite a number of mature hardwood trees, taking 18" diameter trunk at cutting point and 70' height a tree produces about 1.6 tonnes, so assuming 20% loss in additional drying that's about 35K trees annually. A diameter of 18" is a tree about 40 - 50 years old. So we're talking about having 1,650,000 trees between 1 year and 50 years old. The planned Northern Forest is 50 million trees between Liverpool and Hull, so this represents harvesting about 4% annually of this forest. Goole to Liverpool is roughly 100 miles so the 100 mile radius includes pretty much all of this proposed Northern Forest. On the face of it it doesn't seem totally unreasonable, assuming the rough calculations I have done are in the right ballpark and discounting any environmental, economic and other objections.

... Hang on that plant is just 5.5 miles from Drax along the A645, their office address is actually just 3 miles away.
