In reading your post again, especially this part. - "there isn't as far as I'm aware - another religion about at the moment , *some* of whose adherents indulge in offering passers by a binary choice - convert or die" - I do find I disagree with you. Islam does not demand this choice. As far as I recall, it offers infidels a choice of being treated differently from converts. The religion doesn't offer life or death choices but followers of the religion who don't adhere to all the Koran may give you this option. In Northern Ireland 25 years ago, if you were asked your religion would you think they asked in order that they could offer suitable directions to the nearest appropriate kirk?

Tomo. Canna disagree w'yah. But cults don't comprise a whole religion.
Egypt was the only country safe enough to hold a multi-nation conference on the geology of the Red Sea in the 1990s and I'm not talking about the safety of Western geologists. Even in Egypt, other country's geologists would stir each other up and would have to be pacified, usually by us Westerners.
Different factions in the Middle East are at each other's throats without the complication of Israel. Conflict is a pandemic, it uses religion as a focus, as an excuse.
Racial differences are at least partially punderstandable as causes of conflict, we look different even at a distance. To me East African males appear intimidating, yet I can attest that the few that I really know are gentle souls. In contrast, religious differences may be near invisible (and could even be your sibling). Proselytizing cannot be the source of friction because Judaism, probably the most persecuted of religions, does not recruit.
Humans are inexplicable.

Bird impact : Just been talking with an old timer
He thinks birds are doing OK, plenty of birds of prey and people feeding small birds etc.
I asked him f he believed insect numbers were vastly down. Oh yeah way down since I were lad, that's all the agricultural practices like spraying and hedgerow removal. He didn't speak on a universal recovery, but said next to his property there was a 30ft buffer zone which made a huge difference , but then one time they sprayed it and it took rime to come back to normal.
As with all non-metro-libs around here he thinks the same as us on green dogma, but he hates Booker cos or Booker's remainerism.

there isn't as far as I'm aware - another religion about at the moment , *some* of whose adherents indulge in offering passers by a binary choice - convert or die - sure - several hundred hears ago it was a popular recruiting tactic in Christianity - now not so much. I've been on the receiving end of lethal sounding Islamic threats twice over the years and worked with those hundreds of Moslem co-workers you invoke....who are for the most part just fine - or better - although in some places I confess that Koranic interpretations of the world have resulted in some pretty weird outcomes work-wise.
The problem for Islam is the cultists and the literally billions of dollars poured particularly into indulging Salafists and Wahabists whose bloodcurdling approach to most things is at best an anachronism and at worst .... - well that's what's getting folk exercised no?
Aberrant sects throwing their weight around need to be countered - not indulged. Try the "Religion of Peace" thing with a red bearded, black turbaned firebrand of a mullah in rural Libya ....
@GC - as far as blowing up a trial is concerned the activities of Mohan Sing at Leeds (and elsewhere) are conveniently overlooked - no?

You are not a bigot for not liking Islam, but the Polically Correct Progressives will label you as a Racist. I can, and have pointed out some of the hypocrisy demonstrated by those pronouncing themselves to be Good Christains/Jews/Moslems, and been denounced as a biased, bigoted racist. The worst extremists justify themselves and their actions, by claiming it is their God Given right, or duty.
Generally, I agree with your post but:
"The community protects itself. Those grooming gangs are not exposed by the community, indeed the community seems not to understand what the fuss is about."
All communities, races, colours and creeds seek to protect themselves, and advance themselves, within the environment they exist in. That is Darwinian evolution. Moslems do preach discrimination within their own communities, not just towards outsiders. It is very difficult for one Moslem to denounce another publicly, though what goes on behind the closed doors of communities and double-bedded rooms may be different.
In Northern Ireland, Catholics could denounce Protestants and vice versa, but it remains difficult for Catholics to denounce Catholics and Protestants to denounce Protestants. Most Moslems assume that all Christians think alike, and most Christians assume that all Moslems think alike. Should Moslems be asked to adjudicate over the Island of Ireland's abortion turmoil, as Christianity has already caused so much misery to so many?
I learned something about The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of Islam prior to 9/11. To many people became instant experts on Islam since 9/11.
Trying to "blow up" a trial that is trying to address some very serious issues, without any thought to the Witnesses/Victims is dumb/stupid/idiotic.

"Now do you acknowledge that Islam is something I may worry about or do you excuse it? Do you think there is a justification for suppressing criticism of it?"

Moslem Extremism is the greatest threat to the population of The Planet. The Politically Correct Progressives would prefer us to concentrate our deliberately diminished energy on Global Warming. They have made other mistakes.

Rhodda Klapp. How can you condemn a religion? Especially one that was initially tolerant and theoretically still is. I worked for many years in Egypt and met literally hundreds of muslim and Christian academics. You could not tell them apart except for one who followed strict islamic rituals (even when alone with us infidels in the desert). Later we were informed he did this because he judged this a fast route to advancement - he was a lousy and lazy geologist. I never felt at risk in Egypt except in Assyt, where there were Islamic-Christian conficts and we were kept at night behind barred gates. It's not the religion, it's those who use religion (and it doesn't matter which one) for their own ends or in pursuit of some imagery religious goal.

was Madame Hildago present with her close chum Segoline Royal at the ribbon cutting virtue signalling carnival for the French Solar Roadway project?
I see she's also presiding over a plague of rats - raining frogs next maybe?
@GC no doubt that Peter Cook video will garner a load more hits over the next few weeks as the Thorpe case arcs through the MSM....
As to TR - why hasn't Mohan Sing been dragged off to prison .... see Ezra Levant HERE

tomo, the Peter Cook sketch ridiculing a Judge, concerned the Jeremy Thorpe trial. This is now returning to significance, but not concerning Tommy Robinson

Stalling electric car scheme puts Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo in another jam the Times
"The Socialist-led council this week refused to pay a €200 million bill to cover losses incurred by Vincent Bolloré, the industrialist whose group operates the Autolib’ car scheme.
About 4,000 electric cars are on offer for short-term hire at 1,100 points in the greater Paris area.

It's the other way around - all religions are comprised of cults....
As far as Islam in the west goes at the moment western progressive "liberals" are portraying it as a monolithic creed with admirable tenets about life to be followed - most of the anti-islamophobes simply haven't got a clue and are utterly unaware of the irony of supporting a form of "Islam" where many of them would end up being whipped to a pulp or hung from cranes.... so consumed are they by challenging prejudice.
Humans are explicable in that stupidity and willful ignorance both feature front and centre in everyday life. (btw - I don't count myself as innoculated against ignorance and stupidity - but there are orders of magnitude at play in this matter)
re your update - try explaining that to Yazidis or indeed any of the other persecuted religions in the ME. Your interpretation of the Koran would likely be not accepted by most of the jihadist nutters gallivanting around the place.
I repeat :
Aberrant sects throwing their weight around need to be countered - not indulged.
