"Were there any traffic cones?

Or supermarket shopping trolleys with at least one wonky wheel?"

Traffic cones are ubiquitous, I suspect they exist in Antarctica. I have observed them lurking on Maldives islands with no roads.
As for shopping trolleys, I never saw one, but then supermarkets tend to be rather uncommon in PRISTINE deserts.

Elsewhere, on four other continents, I have seen otherwise pristine deserts (which I love) spoilt by plastic waste. It indeed should be haram.

Huffington Post take it to "dah peeple"

The Bullring huh? - not exactly very representative imho and I'd wager they don't hang around outside office hours.

Hurgadah, Safaga, Ras Gharib, Ras Shukeir (and Sinai) and stuck 4x4 s takes me back...... now they've built some swanky roads and holiday villages along the coast - it's not quite the same.... The advent of GPS also removed much of the reason I had for 4x4ing up desert mountains....

I doubt the rubbish situation is much improved. Airborne and water born rubbish can travel thousands of kilometers until it snags and accumulates - we used to light it on the shores of the Gulf of Suez and further south to warm up a bit on cold nights.

We joke about banning plastic but it is a scourge of many desert regions. In eastern Egypt around Hurghada and Safaga the Egyptians were afraid of an Israeli sea invasion striking west to the Nile, so set up miles and miles of wire fencing. This attracted every bit of plastic bags and wrapping over decades and which was ripped to shreds by the incessant wind. Other plastic would snag on the desert floor and form the nucleus of nebkha sand dunes, converting a formerly passable area into a formidable barrier. Many has been the time that I have cursed aloud when digging out a jeep trapped in a dune and looking ahead to see hundreds more of the same.

heatstroke ?

They've missed a trick there .... "wikkid wushin wevvah wangling leads to hottest evah! wevvah" would not surprise me.

I'd wager that the climate control system in the recently refurbished Broadcasting House newsroom is presently set to "arctic" so that Andean woolly hats (with ear flaps) can be comfortably worn.

Perhaps more pertinent is - have they found an Imam prepared to declare plastic haram or issue a fatwah?

Jul 4, 2018 at 10:36 AM | tomo

I don't think that would be a problem. EU and UN Food and Medical Aid would then need to be plastic-free, including all wrappings, containers etc. That might be a problem, unless the Imam couldn't see the plastic through his Ray-Bans.

Tired and emotional with dehydration exacerbated by heatstroke?

El Kebab likely already have some funding provided by UN / EU bureaucrats either overtly or through front outfits. Anti plastic funding has been pouring into African public administrations for a couple of years now....

"The Somali terrorist group al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda affiliate that has carried out suicide attacks and massacres across East Africa, has issued an eco-friendly edict banning plastic bags."

"Presumably enforcement won't be a problem, given their methods..."

They will probably get an EU and UN grant for their Green Environmentalism.
