Hadjuk, all these years and never looked it up, always assumed it was something like Hamilton Academicals! A bit like the gallowglas, Garde Écossaise or The Scots Brigade.
Yes I think a lot of the population of England still regard the Scots as a bit heathen. Despite the modern world being created by Scots, mind you some might say that only confirms the view.

They started with Global Warming. As nothing actually warmed, they switched to Climate Change. As nobody really cared, they have switched back to the more alarming Hothouse. Even Shukman on R4 News was underimpressed by this Alarmist Corporate Rebranding, and he should be concerned about his own job prospects.

EM, Lib dog's free speech rights allow him the freedom to spout his tripe here. It also allows us to identify it for what it is.😜

If Liberty Dog is still here, this is how free speech works.

I see EM can't quite make up his mind between back radiation and ToA for the warming mechanism. Personally I can at least see the principle of back radiation reducing cooling rates and making it a little less cool on the downward slope of the graph, if back radiation can be shown to change with CO2 while eliminating H2O interference and cloud. But ToA height? it's a nonsense, there is no warming mechanism that is about to change surface temperatures short of compression, and that is not related to radiation balance at ToA. Anyhow, you can't have both.

Pretty much the same as England?

I normally drive into Winchester once or twice a week, past the Statue of King Alfred the Great. He was a bit of a Viking basher by English accounts, though what Vikings said about him at the time, I am not sure. They didn't do much writing. Just lootin' & pillagin', or at least that is what I was taught at school.

If you have ever wondered why Split football club is prefixed by Hajduk .......

.... I think that matches how the Scots have been viiewed by the English through the centuries! The story is that 3 founders burst into the Mayor's Office for help, support and suggestions, and he asked them why they acted like Hajduks.

For those interested in trivia about Croatia, it is where the word crevatte comes from - they wore distinctive scarf/neckties, including when they fought, frequently as mercenaries, in European wars, and the English and French struggled to pronounced their Country's name

(all you have to do is substitute the "r" for "er")

Teuchter. The term is contemptuous, essentially describing someone seen to be uncouth and rural. Norfolk folk know the feeling.

\\ The BBC is off on one today, conflating some story about climate tipping points with pictures of wild fires in CA and Europe.
No balance, of course. And all based on 'scientists say',' might', 'may' and 'could'.//

Now why did the BBC ditch all the old science staff and replace them with cherrypicked activists ?

Credit where it’s due.
@BBCr4today had an item on climate change this morning and didn’t feel the need to have a denier on in the name of ‘balance’.
Both contributors agreed it was happening and each had something intelligent to say.
No conflict required.
