With all the campaigns about harassment and bullying, in schools, at work etc, why are MPs allowing themselves to be dominated by a bully? This is NOT a political issue, unless people, including MPs choose to make it one.

https://order-order.com/2018/10/15/bercow-bullying-blasted-by-parliamentary-inquiry/

"The Cox Inquiry into the bullying of staff in the House of Commons has excoriated the senior Commons administration, finding “a culture, cascading from the top down, of deference, subservience, acquiescence and silence, in which bullying, harassment and sexual harassment have been able to thrive and have long been tolerated and concealed.”

Dame Laura Cox explicitly names the Speaker’s Office as part of the “senior House administration” which must replaced in order for the bullying culture to be addressed, concluding:

“I find it difficult to envisage how the necessary changes can be successfully delivered, and the confidence of the staff restored, under the current senior House administration.”

The Met Office was set up as a part of the RAF, following WW1

Seafarers had to work it out for themselves, as did everyone else, including farmers. Every village would have had an expert/sage to be consulted about health, midwifery, weather etc. Weather folk tales based on cloud shapes and patterns generally stand the test of time for 1-2 day forecasts. Predictive Folk lore based on animal and plant behaviour is a reflection of what has already happened, so is useless. Yes it is right sometimes, but so is guessing a coin toss, or the roll of a dice.

Predictive weather forecasting is what everybody wants. I think it has improved due to the money spent on satellite technology etc, and I have noticed that Meteo Group BBC Weather Forecasts do flag up possible concerns about weather patterns up to a week ahead, linked to Highs, Lows, Jet Stream, shifts etc.

I do accept that aviators, seafarers, gardeners, farmers etc have varying requirements for weather forecasts. The public just want to know whether to carry a sun hat, rain hat or woollen hat tomorrow, and whether it will be nice for Aunty Flo's wedding next month, because her previous ones were not a success.

Brent Hargreaves

Harrabin is very good at concealing his hostility and bias in person - very controlling in his appearances - another trait he shares with Moonbat. I don't actually recall Harrabin actually being challenged in parson anywhere?

A few years back I attended a lecture at Imperial College London purporting to have increased the accuracy of weather forecasting by several orders of magnitude (“cold spell in Brazil April 2023”, “Ladbroke have banned me from betting on snow at Christmas”). The speaker was Dr Piers Corbyn, Jezza’s brother of course. I was pretty unimpressed. He was profoundly sceptical of global warmery, but this was a separate matter from the meteorology. At the back sat a very hostile Harrabin, his contempt for the speaker very evident. Journalists should of course be sceptical. But I thought Harrabin’s questioning derived from his prejudices.
