UK has halved air pollution deaths since 1970 but Britain's dirty air is still 'a public health emergency' and is the number one environmental health hazard, scientists say

RT was always going to enjoy the Nick Clegg story (no Russian involvement...), and as always anything on its website should be taken with a pinch of salt, but this is quite amusing:
"In daring to assert Russian interference in Brexit is a myth, Nick Clegg is excommunicated"

China again....
"Brussels makes way for Beijing in the Balkans

"Radar technology used to give bird's eye view of wind farm"
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-48770309
"Radar technology is being fitted to a North Sea wind power development off Aberdeen as part of a major study into the impact on birds.
A total of 11 turbines make up the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC).
Developed by Swedish energy group Vattenfall, the wind farm generated its first power in July last year.
Cameras and sensors will monitor kittiwakes, gannets and large gulls as they pass near the site.
The two-year study is aimed at providing data into bird behaviour at sea.
Vattenfall environmental specialist Chris Jackson said: "The evidence gathered by this research will help decision makers to support the sustainable growth of the offshore wind industry, which is particularly important at a time when the sector is readying itself for rapid expansion.""
That last paragraph is critical. The purpose of the research has already been decided, it seems - to support the growth of the offshore wind industry. Surely the purpose of the research should be to see whether offshore wind farms do or do not have an adverse impact on bird populations, with a view to making an informed decision about whether more offshore wind fars should or should not be permitted/subsidised?

"Climate change: '10,000 families could live off-grid'"
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-48769569
"Erica Thompson says a planning policy which lets people work a smallholding as their sustainable home is a "no-brainer" in fighting climate change."
Guess what? You can find out about Erica here:

"Kenya halts Lamu coal power project at World Heritage Site"
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-48771519
"Kenyan judges have halted plans to construct the country's first ever coal-powered plant near the coastal town of Lamu, a Unesco World Heritage Site.
The National Environmental Tribunal ruled that authorities had failed to do a thorough environmental assessment.
Critics say the plant would have dire economic and health effects on locals.
The Chinese-backed power station would increase the country's greenhouse gas emissions by 700%, activists say.
They warn that construction of the 1,050 MW coal-fired plant near Lamu - a 14th Century idyllic tourist spot - would put its protected status at risk and ruin livelihoods of the locals."
It might well be the correct decision given the location - but note the involvement - yet again - of the Chinese. But apparently we in the UK can save the world, regardless of what the Chinese get up to.
"China has also made a commitment to reduce its reliance on coal, but at least a quarter of the hundreds of coal-fired power stations being built or planned to be built around the world are being financed by China.
Critics say that by building these plants China is outsourcing its fossil fuel use by providing a market for its coal and encouraging its use in other countries."
Further down the article, the BBC again make their now standard error of conflating electricity generation and total energy requirements.

"In Pictures: Climate change protest 'The Time is Now' descends on Westminster"
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-48775463
"A coalition of environmental protesters from across the country have descended on Westminster to lobby politicians over the issue.
"The Time is Now" group promised a wide range of people would take to the streets around Parliament, including surfers and nuns, and they would come from a wide range of organisations, such as Christian Aid, the Women's Institute and the National Trust."
Good reasons not to support Christian Aid, the WI or the National Trust.

Why bother? Surely there's a climate strike due?

This is excellent news, Lucas will support Legal Action against her own supporters when they break the Law.
