Your energy bills subsidise nuclear subs.....

Cardinal Harrabin opines

Hey Roger - it could power a fleet of container ships that wouldn't burn tar.... sheesh what a dimwit.

So Roger's an anti-nuke onanist "analyst" too.... is there no end to his talents?

In peace time, the UK prepares to fight the last war better. With a few exceptions, the Falklands Task Force was let down by new fangled kit.

How do you know?!

The success of drones to patrol the skies and fire missiles etc if necessary would suggest that a combined Drone Carrier and Destroyer might be more cost effective.

The Battleship reigned supreme from 1906 until the early 1940s when the Aircraft Carrier took over. Perhaps the Aircraft Carrier era will be over, just not quite yet.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destroyer
"In naval terminology, a  is a fast, maneuverable, long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against smaller powerful short-range attackers. They were originally developed in the late 19th century by Fernando Villaamil for the Spanish Navy[1][2] as a defense against torpedo boats, and by the time of the Russo-Japanese War in 1904, these "torpedo boat destroyers" (TBDs) were "large, swift, and powerfully armed torpedo boats designed to destroy other torpedo boats".[3] Although the term "destroyer" had been used interchangeably with "TBD" and "torpedo boat destroyer" by navies since 1892, the term "torpedo boat destroyer" had been generally shortened to simply "destroyer" by nearly all navies by the First World War."

I assume that the UK RN commissioned two new Aircraft Carriers on the assumption that the cost would form part of the contribution towards an EU Defence Force, but it has never been mentioned.

Arun District Council has just changed from Conservative to Liberal, a by pass for Arundel is required for the A27. They quote the CCC. Join the dots?

HMS Ocean sold to Brazil and not replaced. This is austerity writ large. It illustrates the failure of modern UK politics.
Only money matters.
From a traditional Conservative viewpoint scrapping the capability of the Royal Navy flagship for merely filthy lucre should bring down the Government.
But now it's all about the money.

My defence policy would be to scrap our nuclear deterrent - that we would never use even if WMD were used on whole Syrian cities nor even in Salisbury - and spend the money on fast destroyers.

Modern destroyers have missile defence capability, are fast and the size of old cruisers. We could afford about 72 for the cost of our nuclear deterrent.

With a third in dock at any time that's about 50 islands of UK sovereignty influencing the world. And we would actually use our Navy. Unlike the pointless nuclear deterrent that deters nothing.

Golf Charlie
Even with the RN Europe isn't awash with aircraft carriers
Fleet Carriers (wiki definition)
Charles de Gaulle France
Cavour. Italy
Queen Elizabeth UK
Plus an Italian and UK vessel under construction
There are 3 French, 3 Italian and 1 Spanish helicopter carriers, HMS Ocean sold to Brazil and not replaced.

It looks like any future RN ships will be built with non-UK steel, with all that implies. In peace the UK always neglects defence and usually regrets that neglect.

What's the point in Virtue Signalling ?
Isn't it like protection money ?
You signal that you are in the RIGHT tribe, and thus the tribe will turn a blind eye to your misdemeanours
That why the libmob laid off talking about Brendan Cox's groping etc.

Likewise Emma is able to say
" look over there Orange man is BAD Sexist he said something bad in 2005"
.. no forgiveness
Whilst time forgives her accountant father jailed in 2003 and 2005 for making £5m from "whores"
