I understand your concern - but what I am saying is - was it a peak value in a short event or did it carry on longer at the same 3ish amplitude? - two quite different things.... What values have been recorded associated with other earth moving activities (like geothermal drilling / fracking) in the last year .... what? ... they don't bother with monitoring and recording you say ... can't be so - surely?

I believe your analysis is correct. What remains to be seen is how many of the characters we all know and love bring their soap boxes and try to snare a bit of the limelight - Gore, Mann, Oreskes, Klein etc, etc.... The Guardian will collectively wet their pants.

I don't know the specifics, or how this is going to happen, but one way or another, Green Democrats want a fight. Sensible Democrats know this will do more harm than good, and have voted this down.

Republicans can buy popcorn, and make copious notes of the arguments and counter arguments used by Democrats as they have a public Civil War.

Should one Democrat faction start waving Mann's Holy Hockey Stick as a scientific symbol of faith, St Greta will march her gullible supporters into the conflict with an enigmatic smile.

Republicans will buy more popcorn.

Imagine the hissy fit if Mann has to play second fiddle to St Greta as the world's top Climate Science Expert.

What is going to happen if a sensible Democrat criticises Mann's methodologies and conclusions? Laywers will be able to afford lots of popcorn.

"Everyone" assumed UK Labour voters would oppose BREXIT.
"Everyone" assumes US Democrat voters all support mass redundancies caused by Green Climate Science

Bloke on BBC News is talking sense about the tremor in Blackpool. It is caused by the fracking. 1.6 was expected. About 3 was not expected.

It needs to get to 4 before it's dangerous. That's 10 times higher, of course.

He wouldn't be worried about the risk of these tremors if he lived nearby. So he's not a nutter. BBC end interview just after he says that so the takeaway message is "Don't Panic!"

But, like me, he sees this as an unexpected outcome of fracking.

BGS monitoring.... 11 earthquakes in the last 50 days

2.9 is pretty small and I'd like to see the event recorded and the microseismic context.

When fracking was linked to tremors of 1.5 on the Richter Scale I was happy to defend the practice, as that's nothing.

But 2.9 and getting bigger without any further fracking is quite worrying.
Let's see if this is just an underground movement that will settle down or the start of something serious.

the DNC I suspect have some polling figures they're sitting on while Bernie, AOC + Justice Democrat chums have their climate crisis to bray about. From what I've seen DeBlasio is with Bernie & Co. and I'd expect him to throw a wedge at promoting Greta, no doubt weapons grade eejit Andrew Cuomo will be in attendance as well. I'd hazard a guess that at least 3 BBC talking heads and associated crew will be lurking in New York - since it's on CNN's doorstep they will be promoting it like crazy....

" ... and get the ticker tape out?"

Recycled toilet paper I presume. They must have a few sheets on board.

As Democrats are now dodging a Climate Science debate, it will be interesting to see who is conspicuously absent, and who is conspicuously present.

Sanders/AO-C will want maximum publicity, and St Greta will naively oblige, as that was one of the objectives of the mission to find the most expensive way to cross the Atlantic for Climate Science.

The BBC could find out the average cost of sending reporters, scientists and activists across the Atlantic, as all those present should know how much they have cost Taxpayers.

Professor @TinaBeattie has she thanked me and put out a correction on the bible quote
but On the fires she is holding her ground
“They happen every year but not on this scale”
,by quoting a Canadian newspaper factcheck
https://globalnews.ca/news/5798570/amazon-rainforest-fire-fact-check
she's contradicted by what the trend figures from NASA say
@clipe what do you reckon ?

I went to look for a debunk of that Canadian newspaper story
but something amazing : when I go to check the journalist's tweets I find MahamAbedi has put her Twitter account on lockdown
due to a viral backlash from Indians after she tweeted a FAKE meme
: a child with a sign from Pakistan , labelled as Indian Kashmir.
The child has a hidden adult behind him, hence the extra hands.

The BBC celebrates more taxpayer funding into waves and tidal flows:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-49471881
"Work has started in Scotland to build what is described as the world's most powerful floating tidal turbine.
Companies based in Orkney, Dundee, Cupar and Motherwell are involved in the construction of the 72m (236ft) long O2.
Once completed it will be tested in Orkney, where earlier versions of the device have already been trialled."

Unfortunately, the BBC did not check:
https://www.scotsman.com/news/environment/government-s-200m-wave-energy-plan-undermined-by-failures-1-4602617
Thursday 02 November 2017

"A flagship government push to exploit wave power as the energy of the future has been undermined by a string of “failures” despite £200 million of investment, new research indicates.

A long-term strategy to create a commercial wave energy device is now needed to ensure it features in the UK’s future power mix, a Strathclyde University reports stated.

The demise of the once-feted industry has been a blow for Scotland’s renewables ambitions. Recent years saw pioneering Edinburgh-based wave firms Pelamis and Aquamarine wound up because they couldn’t make a success of the technology.

A poor understanding of the scale of the challenge in mastering wave energy was highlighted in today’s report, as well as a premature emphasis on array-scale commercialisation and a lack of test facilities."

on the doorstep of the World Trade Centre - will she walk / bicycle / take a bus the 5 miles or so for the triumphal arrival at the UN building?

Will DeBlasio's crew pull out all the stops for and get the ticker tape out?

It's going to be a really tiresome few days I reckon - Greta can walk on water.
