That seems a fair assessment of Merkel's legacy for Germany and the EU. Hopefully BREXIT will allow the UK to commence the process of reversal.

If St Greta can provoke Civil War between US Democrats, the EU may come to its senses and realise that the Great Green Con Era is over.

Mark for German stuff, it's always worth checking

Gosselin usually gets things first
But his last Germany post was about climate hysteria risking car factory jobs.

I saw the pummice stone story on CNN while clicking through the channels

https://edition.cnn.com/2019/08/25/asia/pumice-stone-underwater-volcano-great-barrier-reef-intl/index.html

What utter tosh the whole thing is. I think the blocking out of the light and the friction as it rubs over the Barrier Reef will cause a whole lot more damage and will not "cure" it of whatever ailment they think it has.

PR government always reminds me of the proverb that a camel is a horse designed by a committee.

Mark Hodgson:

Trump has done far more than the rest of the G7 on climate change by presiding over continuing substitution of coal by gas, and by causing economic recession in China through his trade war.

The problem with PR coalition governments is that it nearly impossible to get a major change in policy.

I gave you a full response on LAES at NALOPKT on the "cars to be banned" thread, which has more visibility than this forum.

Germany is a master class in how to tank a thriving economy. Expensive and unreliable energy wasting billions. Hastily introduced and draconian emissions rules on, especially, diesel vehicles instead of a managed change. Stupid and unnecessary shut down of efficient nuclear plants etc, etc, this list is endless. What is sad is that with this example in front of us we are still heading down the same road; unbelievable.

"Most economists and policymakers blame Donald Trump’s trade war with China and Europe, along with Brexit, for endangering the longest economic expansion in recent memory."
Proof that economists and policy makers are unreliable.

"Germany’s ambitious shift to renewable sources of electricity production, known as the Energiewende, has proved to be another challenge for business, saddling companies with the most expensive electricity prices in Europe."

Energiewende has wrecked Germany. There is no quick fix, but expert economists and policymakers are blaming Trump and BREXIT, to avoid admitting their own stupidity.
