Radio 4 at 4:30pm - More or Less is the best show on the radio.

The objection to the Ethiopian tree planting record wasn't that it was impossible. Rather that Ethiopia budgeted for 200 million trees and then claimed they planted 350 million trees.

That's a lot of extra baby trees to suddenly find and plant. And the budget doesn't seem to stretch that far. Although there was a caveat that they may have found a new, unknown large source of trees.

Radio 4 at 6:30pm - The Now Show from Edinburgh (featuring a climate scientist who is also a self-proclaimed comedian) is probably the worst show on the radio.

Some of the problems that beset the first development.

The problems with new tech is that it's unreliable. It reacts differently with different build materials and if it needs fixing, it's much more of a problem, not least that few people can fix it and the original company may have gone bust.

Even if McCloud was the biggest investor and loser, it does not absolve him from blame. Depending on how he was used, he may even have some liabilities.

I wonder if a TV Company was following this Green Housing Development? It could be very educational for viewers, especially if they recognise some of the beneficiaries.

R4 MoL "to find out catch our special program on Monday"
In Ethiopia, the government says 350 million tree seedlings were planted in one day recently, claiming it broke the world record.
It’s part of a wider plan to plant four billion this year.
There’s been a lot of praise for the country’s efforts, but many have raised concerns about the numbers
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3csz3rb

It's not a tiny country, it's got 110m people
but did they really have 350m seedlings to plant ?
that is already a lot of resources.
I reckon a good village could grow 200 seedlings
but I reckon the country has say 10,000 villages,
thats only 2 million trees

We have the silly season.

Well, it's just 30kW to power the lights on a short section of track. At least while the sun is up and shining brightly, but I suppose they may have some batteries.

In 2013, EdF signed a deal with Network Rail to supply about 3.2TWh a year (a deal that might be partly behind why the railways got blacked out first).

https://www.railwaygazette.com/news/single-view/view/network-rail-awards-10-year-electricity-supply-contract.html

That's about 365MW as an average (although it will be somewhat higher during rush hours and much lower overnight). Of course, solar is going to be pretty useless in the winter. But the fond idea that this is the start of solar powered rail is utterly bizarre.

The BBC may have employed someone who fitted the Job Specification required , so perfectly, it could have been tailored to fit.

gc, yeah, I was wondering what they didn't mention. To lose almost every penny, with no obvious point where there would be an improvement suggests that lots of stuff has been paid for but there is nothing saleable yet to start recouping outlays. Too many management fees, green consultans, faulty Tesla batteries? Too few buyers for ruinously expensive pokey terraced houses?

The Grand Designs with green claims, made money because they were grand designs in fantstic locations - the green attributes were only extra expenses that mostly don't add to the value of the property and sometimes detracted from them.

I find it incredible that the BBC doesn't employ a journalist who actually knows something about energy. Then again, who does, other than specialist publications? But they could at least try consulting with some of them.

"Mr McCloud told the paper he wished he had been 'less reliant on the executive team over the years', adding 'I placed my faith in past management in the belief the business would be run well and that decisions would have been above board and fully compliant.' "

Greens. Untrustworthy. Stupid. Gullible. Greedy. Con Artists. (delete if not applicable)

What is it that actually exists that has any value? Part completed houses? A field without Planning Permission? Expensive office furniture? Dreamy ideas?
