Portents in Paris - Josh 306

A dark cartoon for the the start of the year following the shocking events in Paris and stories on BH about the blocking of ideas and closed minds.

I wonder what will happen when the Green Blob meets in Paris later in the year?

Lascaux caves will be off limits although the green Neanderthals would be at home there.

"Lets stop Charlie picking up his pen and writing on internet forums, talking at public meetings"
"Let's Ban Charlie he's a DENIALIST!
"He's not welcome, We have haven't heard what he going to say but looks like he's a DENIER, so lets stir some hate against him, lets intimidate him and put people off from listening"
"Lets go to his internet blog and stir trouble ..and drive the debate in circles"
..A BBC Ecowarrior stands at the door with a Kalashnikov making sure none of those "Charlies" Denialists get in and get some to question their magically simplistic narratives

.."Instead of convincing by argument and experiment ..lets tell Charlie "you have to think this, cos authority tells you too"

- Such dogma damages science and society.

"Doesn't matter what Charlie thinks !" say the activists
well who pays for all their fantasy games and magic solutions ?
..Charlie the tax payer

The Green Blob and its action to stop free speech is bad enough, but its public funded supporter (BBC) denounces attacks on free speech and then proceeds to bar skeptics from voicing an opinion.

No doubt the BBC will continue to do so during the Paris ClimateSummit!

That is a brilliant, but sad and poignant cartoon. It is also depressingly accurate.

Thank you Josh.

An example of the Green Blob doing this at a local level occurred in Shropshire today. Edge Renewables have a planning application to build a wind turbine on Wenlock Edge, for 'training purposes' . This is due to be discussed by the local planning committee on Tuesday. There has been a lot of local opposition to this, including that it will spoil the view from a local footpath that crosses the site.

As a result of this the company have threatened today to close the (permissive) footpath in question. To quote their mouthpiece, one Simon Lloyd-Jones "We had made it very clear that it was a permissive footpath and should not be used as an excuse against the application. If we close that off, it takes it out of the equation.”

It is relevant to point out that those of us that have been around for a few decades have seen this form of intolerance dominate sociopolitics across the spectrum, iow, it is not an issue of ideas but of certain types of personalities.

@SNTF; "Oh the irony"

Too right, can you imagine it, the Rambler's Association vs FoE and Greenpiss, hahaha. Hopefully, it may not come to that, Shropshire Council's south planning committee seem to be getting rather pissed off with with wind/solar applications, they've kicked out a handful in the last few months. Which makes me wonder how on earth the 'renewables' industry, such as Edge Renwables can afford to keep putting these applications - any ideas folks?

I think they need to charge for the generators which are not working, to get more money, to build more generators, that won't work any better. Perpetual motion won't work, but Perpetual Grant Funding does.

It doesn't make sense to me either

Latest Al Gore is blaming the latest atrocities in Iraq on Climate Change.

He blames a recent drought that put a blight on Sunni farmers in the North that drew them towards Alqida and the insurgents spilling over from Syria. So the Hockey Stick obviously does not account for hundreds of years of Sectarian Ethnic Political hatred.
The Alarmist actually claim that the two main rivers in Iraq The Tigris and the Euphrates will both be dried up by 2050.

I'm (finally) reading a book I bought a couple of years ago, published in 2011, "Clive James - A Point of View - The book of the radio series" - which is a collection of scripts of his BBC broadcasts from 2007 to 2009 - with postcripts added just before publishing in 2011. From 2009 - Second Series - there is an essay, labelled "The Golf-Ball Potato Crisp", where Clive (an OZ hero - and if you find and read the transcript - a Sceptic hero), managed to get into the broadcast the balanced, scientific, sceptic point of view on CAGW - material we are discussing and wondering how to get to the "Movers and Shakers" in 2015. In the postscript, he discusses how he was hauled over the coals after the broadcast went to air.

And apropos to Paris, an Australian columnist/blogger, Andrew Bolt, has an article today about the hordes of "Je suis Charlie" followers, implying that many of them, are really NOT. That most of them are really at best, craven submitters and people happy to trample all over free speech - which extend to the rights of we Climate Change Deniers".

Wind Farms, perpetual motion machines what's the difference ?
Some very good points here, but that's a good one from @Golf_Charlie
- As investor I can invest in windfarms which get guaranteed purchase of all the energy produce at guaranteed way over the market price, guaranteed constraint payments for when demand is low and probably some other things (like lower turbine prices cos the gov gives grants to turbine factories).
- So theoretically I can collect my profit and build more and more.
- My external cost risks are : turbines damaged by wind, planning procedures making lawyers rich, end of life decommissioning and site cleanup {which I'll probably get away with not doing}
- When/if subsidies and guaranteed prices are ended will my windfarms actually be "perpetual profit machines" ? No should be the answer. Theoretically the competitive market would cause non-retail wind_electricity prices to drop like DaveyDECC dreams, but if you wean my business on protection and subsidies I won't want that price drop to happen. Anyway retail_electricity prices WON'T fall cos you consumers still have to fuel the baseload/standby power/network_inefficiencies windpower needs in tandem.

Image Le Blob Vert ..Quite apt as you can imagine the many tentacle labels : SkS & Guardian - disinformation
: BBC debate suppression
: Subsidy suckers etc.
: The Big mouth for shouting people down, while the tentacles strangle critical voices etc.

As long as the difference in value between a site without planning permission and one with is multiples of 100% this will drive small companies to seek out sites, apply for planning permission with the aim of collecting a quick return. They sell on to the commissioners who build out the site who then sell it on to the generators. All driven by the guaranteed income stream provide by DECC from our pockets.

Mark Steyn has some tough, insightful words for all the squalid media types who never stand up for freedom of thought and expression, but are suddenly preening narcissistically with the "Je Suis Charlie" hashtags and fake solidarity.

It takes no courage at all to post a "Je Suis Charlie" but the poseurs imagine they have done something. Freedom of expression is frequently assaulted by so many in the media, or at best ignored by the very people who now imagine they are bravely standing up by posting a "Je Suis Charlie" ---

Russell: I didn't know about WUWT's whiteballing software, but I suspect it explains why some of my comments on that page seemed to disappear without trace.

You see, as a Brit, I'm a little bit sweary by Yank standards. I think those are some of the words and memes it filters out. Could it be (perish the thought) that that is all it is for, and that you perhaps knew that?

Jan 11, 2015 at 6:03 PM | Unregistered CommenterUncle Gus

Russell,
Off-topic blog pimping is not good form on anyone's blog... for someone who runs an ankle-biting take-off blog about WUWT you should already know that your lack of imagination and absence of originality has not generated much interest in the web-world.... instead of living in the world of imitation, get a real blog and then someone might take notice of what you say... although blog pimping your blog on other blogs is still in bad taste.

I find it interesting that Russell seems to equate the banning of a magazine for mocking someone's death with the actual murder of cartoonists. Maybe it takes a special kind of scientivist imagination to see the similarities. Russell, I hope you have noticed that Pompidou and co did not murder the editors and writers and artists of Hara Kiri.

Jan 12, 2015 at 5:30 PM | Unregistered Commenterdiogenes

Diogenes lantern has once more inflamed his imagination.

Socialists banning magazines are merely as bad as PR flacks founding and funding them as propaganda vehicles in the science wars.

FYI, regarding Edge Renewables wind turbine application at Wenlock. The shysters have dodged the local planning committee and have appealed directly to the Planning Inspectorate, thus pissing on local democracy and showing total contempt for local opposition to their scheme.
