Jun 10, 2014 DECC Energy Energy: costs Josh
We did of course already know that the UK was planning on using diesel to compensate for renewable energy fluctuations, cartoon here. But Ed Davey's latest bright idea is to use diesel for just about any kind of hiccup in energy. And, of course, to have us, the public, pay for the privilege. See here, here and here.
Proper mad.

Could the black clouds should be labelled Cs, among the CO2s?
New London Fog ? From a foggy set of brains ?
Or foggy bottoms...
Does Davey have a job lined up with a Diesel generator company?
The diesel used in stationary power generation is dyed red.
When James Delingpole wrote his book "Watermelons" he meant the political colours. But the reality is that our "green" renewables are underpinned by red diesel.
You've got to wonder how often the diesels are tested and run and how well they are maintained. What's the probability that they don't start when needed once or twice a year? The cost per unit of electricity doesn't bear thinking about.
Green and becoming a very Unpleasant Land.
Surely they will use bio-diesel... So that's OK then.
Proper mad and proper cartoon Josh.
Davey and Diesel both start with D.
Not a lot of people know that.......
If I were a tanker driver, I'd demand more money to supply people who were getting more money for using my product. Or go on strike...
And even the BBC says that diesel is pretty bad for you...
When will these dumb nuts learn that CO2 is really important to life on earth, without it there would be no vegetation....probably no people just as Davey would like no doubt. All those Chemistry lessons wasted, but then that is education as in this benighted Country.
Davey was indoctrinated at Oxford by FoE's Porritt. He is doing the work of the eugenicist eco-fascists; nothing will stop him.
There is no possibility of argument because he is too deeply committed to increasing the number of the symbols of that totalitarian doctrine; the windmills. The fact that the diesel generators will use more fossil fuel for that tranche of power than the coal fired power stations they replaced is not within his comprehension; his mind is completely addled.
This was proved two years ago when MacKay warned him that only pump storage would save any CO2 with the windmills. Davey rejected this advice because his purpose is nothing to do with CO2, just imposing totalitarian government..

These people are mad. Everyone wants to do good, and piety is a good thing. But you don't give an alcoholic money and fell good about it, and then watch him buy alcohol!
Even the greenest of green activists must see this...
Green policies do not improve the environment, they do not make life better for people, they hurt the economies of the countries they are imposed on.
Why do we tolerate the smug, deceptive, ignorant parasites that the greens are?
Watched some businessman (didn't get his name or function) being interviewed on Ian King Live on Sky last night, who stated:
'Of course we've got to decarbonise electricity generation...' (Cue smug grin)
And that's because - why, exactly..?
@ Philip Bratby - a farmer friend has standby gensets at his chicken sheds. They are run once a week, so at least can usually be expected to start when required. But like most installations, they have battery chargers, and engine heaters, so there is a small, electrical demand from the mains 24/7/365. This will add up when considering just how many diesel gensets are being quietly installed as part of the STOR programme. As to your question about how often THESE units will be tested is, I suspect, a very different matter! I worked for a telecoms company for many years, and can remember several occasions when "emergency" gensets either a) failed to start, or b) started but failed to produce an output. And another thing - what's the betting that some of those STOR installations will get their fuel bunkers filled with "summer grade" diesel, and suffer waxing in the middle of winter, when needed?
I reckon Booker and North got onto this story pretty sharpish too.
Even after the passage of a year it still takes the breath away for stupidity.
It is somehow funny, that windfarms are paid to stop producing electricity, and at also the government ask users to stop using electricity.
If that scheme was aimed at private homes it would become much more popular.
So electric cars will be diesel powered ?
- So the eco-loons waste money on green gimmicks to save the planet like EVs, which we taxpayers pay a massive subsidy to GreenBiz for. Wind doesn't provide much power so 80% of the EVs (DaveyBuggies) can be counted as direct fossil fueled (gas or coal), 14% by rubbishburning/biogas/hydro , 6% by wind/solar
...but then when the winds not blowin/ sun not shining, which is much of the time that last 6% will be powered indirectly by diesel ! YCMIU
