Cuadrilla 1, Greens 0

In a welcome development, Caroline Lucas has been charged for breaching a police order relating to the protests at Balcombe the other week (via Guido).

“Following an investigation by Sussex police, the Crown Prosecution Service has received a file of evidence in relation to Ms Caroline Lucas MP, who was arrested during the anti-fracking demonstrations at the Cuadrillia drilling site in Balcombe last month.

After careful consideration, we have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and that it is in the public interest to prosecute Ms Lucas for breaching a police order on public assemblies and wilful obstruction of the highway.”

In related news, it seems that there was some oil at the bottom of Cuadrilla's drill hole:

Andrew Quarles, Cuadrilla’s Exploration Director, said that “the well was a success and we are very encouraged by the findings so far.”

It couldn't happen to a nicer motormouth.

Pity those in court who have to listen to the verbal diarrhea.

She could always plead insanity. Within 5 minutes of opening her mouth she would convince most people.

Everybody's happy then. I assume that was the outcome she was looking for. Nicely in time to be used as ammo for the next elections....

I imagine she expected to get away with it. A criminal record doesn't usually enhance a CV and can rule out a few travel destinations.

Couldn't she be charged with Piracy. Fifteen years without her on Question Time would be a blessed relief.

Fret not, dear friends.

The Mad Australian 'Sheila' is bound to spring to her defence, then everyone will see how chronically out of touch the Green party is with mainstream public opinion.

By the way, I read the other day that the Sheila was demanding the abolition of Chapter 28 in schools ... someone had to tell her that happened more than a decade ago!

Please let it be prison, Please, please.

Speaking of prosecutions;

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24222392
Russian prosecutors have accused 30 Greenpeace activists of piracy and say they will prosecute all of them for trying to board an Arctic oil platform.

This will be fun! Greenpeace meet Gulag.

Don,

That's an interesting development. Wonder what penalties Russia has for piracy? Gulag might be a soft option.

Meanwhile Lucas needs to be made an example of. Transport to the colonies would be a start.

But would any of them accept her? i suppose she could be sent to australia as revenge for Lewandoski!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this letter in the Guardian:
http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/sep/11/balcombe-residents-experience-poor-fracking-regulation?INTCMP=ILCNETTXT3487

Particularly this bit:

The planning permission allowed 60 passages per week of drilling trucks through our little village. When Cuadrilla pleaded that they had meant 120 (in and out), the regulators just rolled over

Quite shocking really. Trucks driving along a road. And then driving back along it again .
Is there no end to the horror? Presumably the bricks for those nice houses along London Road, Balcombe were delivered individually by carrier pigeon.

Dave,

South Georgia would do nicely - she's sufficiently equipped to prevent any repeat of the 1982 shenanigans - ¡no way, José!

She could take a weather station to monitor the 'warming' there too.

Rehabilitation!

The old saying, "quick to grab the martyrs crown but makes for uncomfortable head gear".
See how far she is prepared to go and refuses to pay the fine or compensation or bound over to keep the peace.

Naterlie Bennet must be jealous Caroline Lucas is getting all the headlines.

Caudrilla maybe buy in their own private security guards next time when they start back up again in Lancashire.

"Please let it be prison, Please, please"

That would be a result - 200hrs community service picking up litter would also be appropriate
