Light blogging

I'm away for a few days. Blogging will therefore be light, although I have a few posts lined up for while I'm away.

It must be half-term. Enjoy.

Good snow in the Alps and more forecast for the weekend.
Leave the laptop behind. We'll still be here when you get back.

As, indeed, will "The Planet"!

It's not half term in Bishland (aka Perth&Kinross*) but we have 3 'in-service days'. So my two are currently on laptops learning about the same amount as they do at school (not much). There has been so much fiddling with the education system over the last 20 years, and now the Curiculum for Mediocrity has become the new mantra, such that teachers now need days without pupils to get acquainted with the bollocks they have to teach. World Religions, Global citizenship, Personal Development etc. My eldest is in Primary4 and still hasn't done the 7 times table, and I have had to teach him decimal points and fractions.

* aka Perth & Incompetence.

UPDATE - To be fair, I should add that there are still some good teachers in the school, but I get the impression that everything has been so dumbed down (since my day) that they struggle find the time to teach numeracy and literacy to the level we did.
