The Haunting 2

Haunting the Library is back in the saddle after a long lay-off. He marks his return with a piece about the Club of Rome.

Politicians, particularly of the left, ever since the Parliamentarian Puritans, basically regard themselves as appointed arbiters of morality. AGW environmental supporters are welcomed into their fold with open arms as they bring a whole new level of 'sin' to be targetted with high taxes, and one that is so much more all embracing since it targets energy consumption, which underpins every facet of human endeavour, unlike previous sin taxes- alcohol, tobacco, luxuries and so on. We, (sceptics) , basically evaluate by means of common sense and logic. Politicians (and warmists) respond to emotional beliefs- logic becomes totally subordinated to belief.

We have vast imagination, and engineers who can't help but debunk politicized science. Theoretically, the energy from the sun that reaches the earth could support a human population a million times as large as at present. Practically? Well, not so many.

Thanks for the post, Bishop! :)

I've also posted another short article observing that Jeff Masters of Weather Underground has been cited in two articles, one which claims AGW will mean more cyclones, and one which claims it will mean fewer cyclones: http://hauntingthelibrary.wordpress.com/2011/07/01/global-weirding-how-global-warming-will-mean-more-cyclones-and-fewer-cyclones/

Dontcha just love it when you're right either way?

Good to see 'Haunting the Library' back on deck again. Good article, which confirms that Greens are are more than a little careless with facts, and wilfully so.

Alexander,
How many times do I have to tell you that facts do not matter?
You really are becoming quite impossible. You'll be expecting honesty, transparency, and scientific principles next. And you know where that can lead.
Yes, good to see HauntingtheLibrary back in action. The 'global weirding' post is a gem. I wonder of global warming can lead to the same number of hurricanes, the same amount of snow, possibly even the same temperatures... Every other possibility seems to be available.

Sorry, Mike. I'll head for the corner if I can find my pointy hat with the big D painted on it. I'll leave to you to guess what the D stands for.

Whilst HtL has been away, Steven Goddard has been haunting the Google version of newspaper archive microfiche stacks, with counterexamples to every 'unprecedented' claim ever made by the climate alarm industry. Well worth a browse. Goddard's USP is total, withering contempt for all climate alarmists. Suits me fine. However, lukewarmers, still trying to salvage a fragment of science from the cesspit, may find his style too bracing for their taste.

Thanks. I was singularly impressed by the Cove Beach, La Jolla California comparison. And particularly the 1959 homecoming queen at La Jolla High School.
