Blackboard piracy on the High Seas - Josh 122
Oct 4, 2011 Josh
This last week has all been about the blog heavywwight wrestling match between The Blackboard's Lucia and Christopher Monckton in a discussion which is way above my grey cell grade.
After much behind the scenes discussion and some trepidation as to the deep water I might be getting into I have come up with a series of cartoons - here are the first two.
Feel free to interpret them as you wish, is this Pirates of the Caribbean or Peter Pan? You decide.
And now part three
Part 4? Who knows... I will be reading the blogs with interest

Josh,
My suggestion is that you have a cartoon where Lucia gets "taken to the cleaners." Because it has happened many times. Just in the interest of balance. ;)
Andrew
Does the Lord walk upon a whale, hooked by Dallas, being landed by Paul K?
=============
BA, I think you are just trying to get me into more trouble...
It's the Kiehl and Trenberth cartoon. Bad, bad drawing. No dinner for them.
===================
Her Majesty's Captain and Commander marches Pirate Captain Trenberth off the Planck. Keelhauling the IPCC is in progress. Worried pirate 'crew' members watch in wonder, and tremble.
==============
Paul K has an alarmist over a barrel, chundering.
===========
Dallas dandies sprats.
==========
Josh,
OK, you win.
What (who) is the green tentacle arm reaching out from behind the Santa Lucia in the Part II cartoon?
Is that a monster spawned of Kev's missing heat?
Or is it our English prof Moshpit tape recording Christopher Monckton's erudite prose for future self-improvement study?
John
The water surface is supporting Lord Monckton with peer pressure.
I think the perfect couple has emerged?
He some washed down nobility writes in I think a sort of Victorian english fudge, allthough he seems to be funny sometimes
She is of a similar nature but as a gold plated Kindergartencleaner and comes all the time with needless elaborated legalese copy paste rubbish of the sorts "he said this then I said this where he said this then I said this.." she goes on and on until i believe only her Monckton is still awake.
she also all the time interlaces her futile verbiage with how good , attentive and above all how "scientist" she is. thank god that character was not around where i was studying I wld hv gone postal.arrgh!
Josh,
In a possible Part III cartoon, does Captain Nemo's submarine Nautilus surface to pick up CM? Then does it proceed to ram the hapless Saint Lucia?
[apologies to Jules Verne's 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea']
John
John, great guesses. Part 3 is done and waiting in the wings...
........ and in Part iv, Nautilus deep dives to the unimaginable depths to find grotesque, never-before-seen creatures reclining under palm trees & sipping pina coladas while enjoying Kev's hidden heat.
Foxgoose, what a great idea!
Over at the Josh post on WUWT,
---------------
j ferguson,
Arrrgh, thar’s me matey. Plunk down some plunder for a pint of plonk. Avast!
Piratical Note: Me thinks Plank or Planck is bad pirate spelling by them thar edumucated types.
John
He's saying
'Lucia, calm down, Its really of no consequence. Have fun with your betting again. Its bigger than both of us - the uncertainty monster.'
I cannot zoom in enough to see what CM is saying in part III.
Anyone?
John
I think the octopussy is saying that it is a "sucker" for Josh's cartoons and wants to feature in more of them.
John, I am afraid we may never know. On the other hand part 4 may reveal all.
It's the great white whale of albedoism. Hey, we can have Captain Ahab and Captain Bligh references here.
H/t the old fisherman and PuK.

Josh,
You tease!
Thanks for all.
CM might be singing this to lucia,
John
Given the nautical flavour mingled with Quantum stuff, I deplore the lack of recognition given to hICEenBURGS uncertainty principle! In the specific case of Lord CM, he may give off the odd wave to his admirers from time to time and he's frequently practical but can he be a Waver and a Practical simultaneously?
Ok make that Iceburgs Uncertainty Principle.
Great cartoons from Josh, as always, but the in-jokes are getting a bit obscure, even for me.
Does anyone have an "executive summary" of the CM vs Lucia issue?
Andy, I am not sure there are too many in jokes but a quick look at the links in the post, one at Lucia's and one at WUWT should give you enough of an idea of approximately what the 'discussion' was about.
The lukewarmers burnt themselves major on this one.
Here we are, with even the classical age Monckton keeping up 'with the times', with a real decent contribution to the sensitivity 'debate', and then you have the lukes rushing into Monckton-bashing as though it was still in fashion. How very 2010, huh?
And all this fighting over that Trenberth diagram where he and his coauthor try to do a budget for the Earth system, by counting every single joule. How many more years have to pass before these people wake up? To borrow an expression from my former boss, ...if you take all the sensitivity papers and dump them into a nearby sea, it would make no difference to our understanding of the climate, at the present. Ok, maybe too severe, how about just locking them up for two years - no one cite them going forward?
My theory is Josh's take is that you can find the missing heat if you measure the number of Joules contained in verbal exchanges. :)
Josh was nice and drew me to look like Keira Knightly. I asked him to do so.
I thought Josh was heading for a play on dock vs. pier (Doc vs. Peer), but the Kraken is cracking.

I keep commenting over at Lucia's gaff that prejudice (against the Noble Lord) is a very poor foundation for math (which has taken off and is well beyond my pay-grade) but continue to be ignored. But you're right - the luke-warmers party as if there's no tomorrow. There isn't? Who'da thunk it!
Anyroad, Josh rocks!
Peter Planck?
I am appalled by the childish references to pirates.
Grow up, will you.
Heretic--
Well, that's a mysterious comment. Your penultiate comment consisted of one word: (See "Boring".
In your most recent comment, you admitted I was correct in my math, writing among other things
That seems to suggest that you recognize that my criticism of Monckton is technically correct, but in your mind that shouldn't be done. Or maybe you meant something else.
It does appear to be true that people are ignoring your comments; it appears no one responded to either of those two comments.
The price of e,
Sensitivity value.
Ideally cynic.

There is this recent paper I am reading:
On the Epistemological Crisis in Genomics. Dougherty ER, Current Genomics, 2008, 9, 69-79
In the introduction, the author says:
"Reason applied to observations, and not reason alone, yielded pragmatic knowledge of Nature"
Oooh, Lucia - you are stirred up. What's he done to you?
Skeptik, he's just wrong, and pretty poor sport about it, when his errors get pointed out to him.
Decent explanation here.
The sea has frozen due to all the human made global warming "missing" heat has "goone off"?
Ha!...Nice one Josh...... The Kraken will surely ROC their boat? Savy?
