And look, the Little Ice Age was warmer than both the Medieval Warm Period and today. In other words, I can draw the hockey stick upside down.

Brilliant, just briliant !

You get better and better -- particularly on Mann.

It all depends on how you hold the chart now. Josh has it correct.

Sweet. Love it.

Josh, Congrats, you got your angle of dangle spot on!!

Josh, in terms of the climate debate you are now as funny as Matt in the DT!

Aug 17, 2010 at 9:45 PM | Unregistered CommenterDung

Actually, Don, it is supposed to be Gavin! They are spookily alike don't you think? Maybe they are twins...or maybe Gavin is just a nom de climate...

Josh,

I think I can tell the difference because Mann never smiles, only smirks. Is that it?

Good ol' Josh, havimg to lie as always.

Bishop Phil

May I ask a personal question?
I already know that you have anger management problems, a lack of interpersonal skills, spelling problems and an inate ability to fail to recognise truth even when it falls on you from a great height but:
Do you have a sense of humour?

Aug 18, 2010 at 1:17 AM | Unregistered CommenterDung

damn!
I went and spelled innate wrong :(
I demand an edit facility ^ .^

Aug 18, 2010 at 1:25 AM | Unregistered CommenterDung

@bishop phil

I think you can bask in a common comic kinship with josh. As isn't he just using a cartoon representation similar to the superimposed hockey chart that you posted a link to on a previous blog post? Something that you believed was humourous at the time?

He has just used that chart in a slightly different way ;-)

"I think I can tell the difference because Mann never smiles, only smirks. Is that it?"

I thought he looked a bit lean for mike, who appears to be more keen on the pies than gavin; ie, consumes more than his fair share of energy resources.

Hi Bishop Phil! Do let me know which is 'lie' bit, happy to change the cartoon if I have got it wrong. Email me if you like.

I mean the 'lie' bit...

Josh, we obviously think alike!

From the "BREAKING" thread over at WUWT a couple of days ago:

Scottie says:

It seems that McShane and Wyner omitted one vital step in their reconstruction. As any fully qualified, peer reviewed climate scientist will tell you, it’s necessary to rotate this graph by 10 degrees counter-clockwise. The reasons are so obvious that I see no need to explain them here.

Once this step has been done, it can be seen that McShane and Wyner 2010 is in pretty close agreement with Mann et al. (1999).

Bishop Phil posted this a few days ago:

Oh look, Wyner & McSHane have found another hockey stick!

But of course, your denialist religion prevents you poor suppressed babies from seeing it or understanding why it's there. And it always will be there, because it's in the data.

Seems humour is transient...

Hey, it was Bishop Phil who inspired the cartoon! Thanks Jiminy, I had forgotten I read that.

Aug 18, 2010 at 11:55 AM | Unregistered CommenterJosh

Nice one, Josh!

Mind, all those hockey-stick-resurrections now start to remind me powerfully of Glenn Close in the bunny-boiler movie ...

"A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude." - Aldous Huxley

With the Hockey Stick as our Temple of AGW, we're nearly there, eh, Comrades?

Aug 18, 2010 at 2:42 PM | Unregistered CommenterRick Bradford

Your hockey stick doesn't actually match the data plot though does it Josh?
No it does not.

Maybe you left that in subconsciously because you remembered your mummy telling you deceit only gets you so far.

Still, what's a mere squiggly line to you lot.

Aug 18, 2010 at 4:32 PM | Unregistered CommenterBishop Phil

Bishop Phil has got a point Josh. Your official submission to the next IPCC report will have to go on hold. You really are going to have to perfect "your line drawing with a pen chart plotting skills".

Could you please also supply your data sets, program code, methodology and statistical qualifications used for producing the cartoon? Otherwise I am going to demand BH take it down.

Josh,

sarc on/

I think Bishop Phil gotcha!!!

Is your cartoon peer reviewed? If not then it cannot be funny.

sarc off/

Great stuff JOSH!

Question: When will we see a M & W 2010 cartoon? Soon, I hope. I loved the old VS ones.

I agree with Phil so I have updated the image so the hockey stick fits the data better (sounds familiar) - just one of those tricks you can do to hide the decline ;-)

Aug 18, 2010 at 9:52 PM | Unregistered CommenterJosh

John Whitman, yes, all my work is peer reviewed, occasionally censored and frequently questioned as to whether I care about the planet/forests/polar bears - keeps me on track ;-)

Bishop

There is an ancient Jewish saying -- and as Hebrew is not my strongest language, I hope I have it right:

המוהל צריך להיות זהיר עם המספריים שלו.

It says: "The Mohel should be careful with his scissors.”

The expression reminds me of Mater (the rusty recovery truck) in Cars...
