JG-C has his findings confirmed
Apr 15, 2010 Climate: Surface
John Graham-Cumming, who found what appeared to be an error in HADCRUT a couple of months ago, has had confirmation from the Met Office that his observations are correct. The effect is relatively minor, narrowing the error bands slightly IIRC, but it is another powerful demonstration of the power of audit.

May I be one of the first to congratulate John on his victory for openness, diligence and - for crying out loud - code commenting! :o)
Don't care if the effect is large or small, pro-sceptic or counter-sceptic, the fight was for doing the right thing, the right way. While we've long argued that the work SHOULD have been done better, John's demonstrated clearly that it also COULD have been.
And it's a joy to know that those who lambasted John for daring to question the standard of the work they did, paid from the public purse, have been given every reason to shut the heck up and hear him after all. Yay. :o)
It'll be interesting to see if they publish a paper that summarizes the error found.
