The antidote to RealClimate

Climatologists Hans von Storch and Eduardo Zorita have started a new blog. Welcome to the blogosphere, gentlemen.

From the new Blog

The 'trick' was to not show this mismatch between treering records and temperatures in the late 20th century. Instead of showing the treering records drifting away from the instrumental temperatures

This is inaccurate.

According to the email the instrument data was not substituted for the proxy data, but instead were added together.

I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards)

What is interesting is that Mann denied ever doing this in a comment at realclimate.com

No researchers in this field have ever, to our knowledge, “grafted the thermometer record onto” any reconstruction.

I tried posting this at the new blog but was unable to Cut and paste text into the comment field. I think Blogger.com is conflicting with my mac somehow.

Joshua

I think this may just be loose language on the part of the Team. McIntyre also says it was deleted and I think I'm right in saying he (or perhaps one of his co-authors at CA) has reproduced the diagram.

wow - its about time there was an AGW alternative to RC, Tamino, and Romm. Though it must be noted that Dr. Schmidt at RC has earned my most improved prize since emails broke.

Anyway, I look forward to reading up on their views & activities. I don't have any more time in my day so I guess I have to cut out Romm... good riddance.

thanks
