Olympic detachment

Gordon Brown will not be attending the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olmpics, according to the BBC.

Why not? Does he expect to be kicked out that quickly?

No. The Chinese government just doesn't want the bad publicity of El Gordo ruining the photo-op.

All nations, and especially the US, should boycott the opening ceremonies. I believe it is the best compromise position. The athletes still get to compete but China gets exposed to the full measure of world displeasure with their horrible human rights abuses.
