M Courtney:

That's precisely my point. In winter, open ocean is an excellent emitter, while snow covered ice acts as an insulator. By contrast, since there's no sun, the process of warming because the ocean is an excellent absorber comes to a complete halt. Cloud cover has an important role to play in shielding open ocean (and ice) from the sun in summer, reflecting radiation back to space, and in reducing the emissions to space from open ocean in the winter.

It doesn't add up...

I wonder what he thinks happens in winter, or is that a "short term natural variability wiggle"?

In fairness to Dana, in winter the Arctic is dark and so albedo effects would be negligible.

Yeah, right! But can anyone explain to me how this is supposed to work? Hansen says this is plausible because the sea-level went up that sort of amount at the end of the Eemian interglacial. But my primitive understanding of climate science suggests that the temperature goes down at the end of interglacials. So how does that send up sea-level?

A very good post on JoNova about CCS. Even Greenpiss don't like it - as the Ecologist tells us.

The feckless head shrinks at Yale fail to understand people. Again.

http://time.com/3972986/climate-change-education/

"researchers found that education level was a key determinant of climate change risk perceptions in 62% of countries around the world. But all bets are off when it comes to education and views of climate change in the United States, along with a select few English speaking countries."

In other words - in countries with long experience of lying, incompetent scientists, it takes more than the unproven claims of hysterical PhDs to make them swallow yet another scare story. Researchers in one of the less credible sciences express bemusement at this effect. People with a grudge against successful countries on the other hand, believe that the US and the UK are guilty and should pay reparation and or be kicked back to the stone age. Now who would have guessed that?

Nothing new in history.

World War 2: Gas-driven cars soon reprint of article from 1939, which refers to a WW1 solution.

Dana Nuccitelli at his typical nuttiest:

Indeed, the Arctic is the fastest-warming region on Earth precisely because of the sea ice “feedback.” Melting ice decreases the reflectivity of the Arctic surface, causing it to absorb more sunlight, warm faster, and melt more ice, which causes yet further warming in a vicious cycle. There are short-term natural variability wiggles on top of the trend, but the long-term Arctic sea ice decline is indisputable.

I wonder what he thinks happens in winter, or is that a "short term natural variability wiggle"?

@stewgreen

Thanks for that, I did not spot it at the time. Amber Rudd has been plucking rabbit after rabbit out of her hat recently in terms of sensible new policies so all she needs to do now is pull out the big white rabbit at the bottom of her handbag (just on top of her purse!) and repeal the bloody Climate Change Act hehe.
