Sandy/James/Stew, regarding the air pollution story, there was an amazing admission on Today this morning. Justin Webb said is it fair to say that we've focused on CO2 and taken our eye off more immediate concerns like pollution, and the interviewee Holgate said "absolutely".

I think that opening the door of a wood burning stove will bring some particulates into the room, as does clearing the ash. Small amounts but there tends to be little ventilation in modern rooms. Most people round these parts with wood burners seem to agree that there is more dust in winter; not the result of an expensive research programme but it probably just as accurate. Not as dangerous as cooking over an open fire certainly.
What sets our smoke detector off most frequently is burning toast, which if other research is to be believed is a double whammy.

Oxford Mail and The Guardian have the story.

BBC reporting a massive explosion at Didcot Power station. It was apparently in the decommissioned generator hall of the A power station.

Is it actually the green Party website ?

Possible indoor particulate contact :
- when you open the door to throw wood in.
- When you scrape out the ash etc.
... Still it's not like cooking over an open fire
..but I wonder if with Aga cookers particulates escape into the room

Salopian, Didcot may be an ex-power station, but the BBC still took the trouble to say that it was an ex-coal-fired-power station. Of course, so is Battersea, but the BBC London Arts-luvvies don't like to dwell on that fact because, deep down, when push comes to shove, culture will always trump global warming.
