In the mid/late 90s (?) when I was gullible enough to trust Mann and Climate Science, the BBC's Gardeners World TV programme did much to promote the sale of water butts, to store rainwater, gravel mulches, drought tolerant planting schemes etc. Apart from summer 2003, what went wrong?

Pests - I'm rather looking forward to alligators & crocodiles breeding in the standing water, we could feed them healthy Greens then eat the reptiles and use their skin. Win-Win fewer Greens & tasty nutritious food
Diseases - like Green-mania, Carbon-itis and Energy-phobia?
