Agreed. I'd hope that female students would be insulted by such a move.
Critical Theory versus critical thinking - Newman vs Peterson

A timed 5 mile run with a fixed bergen weight in the military clearly tests stamina and fitness. If everyone should meet a standard, this should not be lowered for women. But this is different from a test of mathematical skill.
A test of mathematical ability shouldn't have to be time dependent. If exam results demonstrate that woman perform worse than men but primarily as a result of time constraints, AND YOU ARE NOT CONCERNED WITH EVALUATING A STUDENT'S PERFORMANCE WITH A TIME CONSTRAINT, an exam that penalizes women for something that is not being examined is counterproductive.
I applaud Oxford both for recognizing the problem and for dealing with it.
It is also clear from comments here that others feel they were disadvantaged by time restrictions during exams.
Canadian climate science is facing a crisis... hundreds of scientists have warned, after the Canadian government failed to renew the country’s funding program for climate and atmospheric research
Excellent Mr W, excellent.

So long as both men and women candidates benefit from the extra 15 mins, I don't see any problem. There is nothing sacred about a 90 mins exam.
Oxford say it is benefit females. They were probably struggling to finish in allotted time. The best have finished long before end and would leave when finished; those still scribbling when "pens down" called invariably scored lower.
It's exactly the same as increasing time for 5 mile run or lowering bergen weight in military to help women pass.
Should not happen.

Australian PM promises $60m for Great Barrier Reef programme ...climate change blah blah
... To me it judge looks like he'd badging normal existing funding

"can also tell you that exam marking is soul-destroying. All your pearls of wisdom lost or trampled under foot. I loathed it."
I strongly agree!
Ross Lea. I hope you kept all your derivations on your exam paper and did not put a line through them. It is quite likely they would have been given some credit. They indicate that you are capable of deriving those formulae from first principles and at least you were not just a parrot.
It is not generally known nor appreciated that exam markers bend over backwards to find within an exam script something to award marks for. At the university level this can reach extreme levels and the joke that getting your registration number right (in lieu of your name) got you ten marks is not so far from the truth.
I can also tell you that exam marking is soul-destroying. All your pearls of wisdom lost or trampled under foot. I loathed it.
The Daily Mail makes a feast out of this.
