With every new study by marine biologists, funded to find problems caused by man on the Great Barrier Reef, new problems are found, that have been caused by man, on the Great Barrier Reef, that require more funding.

Can anybody see a solution to these problem finders, that might save some funding?

Plastic is gangrene on coral reefs

according to erm... Damian Carrington

Can we send him and his chum George out to Indonesia to sort it out?

All the Arctic CO2 powers Father Christmas and his Reindeer (plus carrots and mincepies) His annual performance on this unusual diet must have sports coaches drooling.

@RR

They have really gone so far off their original raison d'etre that imho The Independent really should be euthanised as a hopeless case. I am so sick of their incompetence and dishonest shit - granted I don't have to read it directly - but the number of times their malicious stupidity gets quoted onwards is very tiresome indeed.

RR. No, no, the problem is much more insidious: more so that even Gwen fears. The Arctic will become top heavy with the weight of the massed ranks of superfluous polar bears, and will begin to slip south, crossing shipping lanes. Drax will run out of wood pellets, and will need to return to dirty old coal. CO2 really is an evil molecule!

Perhaps increased CO2 is an aphrodisiac for Polar Bears? Zoos struggle to get them to breed, extra CO2 could be the solution and NOT the problem.

All this from a couple of Norwegian arrowheads and bits of cloth?

Inventing Wikipedia definitions was probably not their top priority to achieve civilized status.

I would agree that there is a difference between a temporary bivouac site (that may be used regularly) and a shepherds hut or hunting lodge, that may be requiredly routinely by many generations

Tomo: interesting to note that they attached the claim that “levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere hit new high, says UN” with a photo of a couple of polar bears. Other than asking, “Since when?” one could also follow the logic that, as polar bear numbers are also at a new high, can one surmise that the rise in polar bear numbers is somehow linked with the rise in carbon dioxide?

As it is apparent that, for the mainstream media, correlation = causation, perhaps they should follow that observation. Just think of the panic that they could generate with the fear of the world being over-run by polar bears.

The Chinese (government one has to assume) has been cloning monkeys....

In China, they will be known as Climate Scientists, fed peanuts and bananas, and probably provide more accurate and identical forecasts.
