@Jamesp Well I guess neither of the wealthy greens would have been so vulgar as to accept cash.. Monbiot would have perhaps asked Leggett to donate it to a charity on his behalf ..I guess : Greenpeace or Friends of the Smug.

Via A Bolt : This Classic video will win the warmist's lot of support "Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) climate EXPERT Carol Andress was asked "did the IPCC 2013 fail to recognise the 18year pause ?"
"em ar ..it's pretty basic physics it's..TRAPPING HEAT it's common , pretty common sense ..if we are going to be putting UNLIMITED POLLUTION into the air..... eventually gonna have an impact"
..Wow that's a climate EXPERT scientific explanation is it ?

- Thursday Lord Lawson will be interviewed on Australian ABC Radio about the Paris Climate meeting Bolt says Flannery will be mentioned

- ABC Future Tense has a interesting sounding prog about CASTRASTROPHE predictions
- apparently the Iraq war and Australian growing defecits are all evil scare predicitions
but Climate Change is certainly NOT.
"..Australia's public debt were there really is no credible story in which we are going to face substantial problems of public debt anytime for decades, .... Against that there's things like climate change, which we definitely should be worrying about." says economist John Quiggin "left-wing economist and blogger who wrote the book Zombie Economics"

Re. Monbiot, I did read his piece, but mention of the £100 being settled were conspicuously absent. He also finished with the words: "Jeremy and I have both lost" which sort of implied that Jeremy is a tight-fisted git (as wealthy people can be) who wouldn't pay up...

I have found that nothing works with some people, it's like arguing with a 10 year old - logic doesn't really come into it. It's not really a religious type belief, more like a touching faith in a Grid which has worked for about a century can handle what is going to happen to it in future. If STOR actually saves the day for a few years then the response will be that of a 10 year old "see I told you". Ed Miliband did a great job of blaming "greedy Energy Companies" to divert attention from the Climate Change Act. Many people are barely aware of the CCA far less what it has meant to energy costs.

Jamessp just asked "How often is STOR used ?"
Ans : "National Grid typically has around 3GW of STOR contracted, and dispatches STOR 5 days out of seven"
that's on pg 12 of PDF : Statutory Security of Supply Report 2014

"Demand side response (DSR) (asking the customer to turn off demand)
:1.8. NG currently utilise DSR as part of its role as residual balancer of the electricity transmission system – fine tuning the balance between the demand and generation of electricity in real time. NG contracts power sources, including DSR, for balancing the system through its Short Term Operating Reserve (STOR),12 among other balancing services. NG typically has around 3GW of STOR contracted, and dispatches STOR 5 days out of seven"

@SandyS @HaroldW In renewable conversations I find logic works.
\\So the Greens tell you that renewables work, but there is a big conspiracy by big corps to resist them ?
Do you think big energy is smart with its money ?
So if they genuinely do work without a subsidy do you think, that they would try to stop other people doing it
.. or do you think they would have been the first to install this "magic free energy" ? // Yes, they say
\\so the Greens seem to be full of mad conspiracy theories ?// Yes, they say
- I then point out there is genuine green energy that works like hydro or burning rubbish or gas recovery from rotting rubbish and that the hallmark is that the businesses come up with the bright ideas, take the risks themselves and receive no subsidy.
I finally ask them if they understand that the subsidies come out of government regulations obliging power corps to buy green energy and therefore it is paid out of poor peoples bills, whereas rich landowners are the ones earning from panels and turbines on their land.// Yes, they say

SandyS: The information on the DG STOR application can be found here in the Design and Access Statement.

TinyCO2: I think the strawberries that I have just started harvesting from my polytunnel are Elsanta - delicious!

They mean Larsen B Ice Shelf - ah now the actual scientist says "well it's not that huge, others are much bigger, this is a medium size one, ..it is ONLY significant in the principle. The rise in sea level from this one is not going to be big..rather it is a lesson for future ones.. Ice shelves are gatekeepers holding back glaciers from decaying into the se faster than otherwise"
..mentioned in Larsen B ic the Telegraph
