@SandyS
Am I wrong that this term Xenophobia was scarce until a year ago ?
but now seems to be used regularly in the media and elsewhere ..where RACIST would have been used before ?
..and is almost always a SMEAR word ?
: You suggest that it is a milder term than racist.
"OED Xenophobia = Dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries."
..I am going to suggest that the OED is wrong ..and that common usage and other dictionaries have a different definition
that comes from Xeno - Foreign ..phobia- FEAR
XENOPHOBE. : one unduly fearful of what is foreign and especially of people of foreign origin.
Xenophobe - Merriam-Webster Online"Fear or hatred of foreigners and foreign things" Chambers Dictionary
"Is Xenophobia the same as having a low opinion of immigrants, legal or not " ?
fear of foreigner yes ..but few people have genuine FEAR of foreigners
\\and disliking the fact they are "taking our jobs"// that is concern , not racism nor xenophobia
\\ or resenting a high street full foreign shops // resenting would be , but showing concern wouldn't be
"when you get a home delivery from ASDA* and buy your clothes online from ASOS*? It's a very messy thing to unravel.
*Other retailers are available" (I thought you were pointing out those businesses are foreign owned)
So I still think that throwing the word around is mudslinging and shows that the one with more hate/anger is the one that uses it. So DA was wrong.
And was trying the logical fallacy of MISREPRESENTATION.

SandyS. Indeed it was (is). A complete waste of time and money, hanging around some scrappy ground with the occasional miserable and bedraggled polar bear biding their time until they can move away from one of the world's dumps. Talking of which why haven't the BBC explained why the bears are not skeletal looking and congregate around Churchill? People I know who have been there to see the bears tell me visitors are always taken to the town rubbish dumps where the bears congregate.
I have never seen a wild polar bear and have no wish to do so. The daughter of a friend of Mrs.K returned from Svarlsbard traumatized after a fellow student was killed by a polar bear in their camp.

Probably no more than you'd expect from someone who supported Bernie Sanders, but interesting anyway.
In a clip for his latest move “Trumpland,” liberal filmmaker Michael Moore gave an impassioned and profanity laced summary of how he sees the voters for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, although the film ultimately promotes the candidacy of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

ACK
Was that a smidgeon of criticism of the BBC?

Not sure that hating a rival political faction and supporting "green" issues is xenophobia by any definition (Nov 2, 2016 at 9:28 AM).
Just pointing out that from one of your comments (Nov 1, 2016 at 7:47 PM |) suggesting that mentioning xenophobia was a hit piece could be seen in a different light. Is disliking foreign influences on your daily life xenophobia or nostalgia? Is using the word xenophobia mudslinging? Depends on your view point I suppose, many Scots could be described as xenophobic for their dislike of the "English" just as many Britons are xenophobic in their dislike of the French and Germans.
Not that I'm suggesting anyone here is xenophobic, just that saying that there isn't a proportion of the British (or any nation's) population that is xenophobic is pushing credibility to the limit.

@SandyS ah by Xenophobia you are talking about what Attenborough said
\\Brexit : "not scared to call it xenophobia” driven by a “primordial fear”//
Yes but using the word Xenophobia is mudslinging
It's the label and dismiss trick like shouting racist or troll to close down discussion.
It's also a very strong term to just throw around.
As ever UKIP is no an anti-foreigner party or an anti-immigrant.
The issue is the Cameron government not having any control of immigration.
So 10,000 checked immigrants this year is not a big problem, but the idea that after 5 years it could be 1 million or 5 million is an issue
...and that people with criminal records from their own country were getting in unchecked and then committing crime.
The same people ho voted UKIP could have probably quite happily lived in Australia 30 years ago, when it's government did have an ongoing but well controlled immigration policy.
And they could have ended up with neighbours who are white, Aborigine, Lebanese, Chinese etc. and they would have been quite happy

Ross Lea. Strange how different people can view the same programme and reach different conclusions. I watched the programme and was pleasantly surprised. The focus last night was not on climate change (I gather this topic will be covered tonight). Yes there were comments about bears having to wait longer for seaice to form, but they were easy to ignore. I have never visited Churchill and am glad I haven't. It looks and feels like Nome in Alaska, another community to keep away from. I was interested in the items on Greenland, especially the depopulation and the threats posed by mining.
The BBC are really in the wrong place and at the wrong time. The arctic in full summer is the time to show it in its full glory. After doing fieldwork for several weeks, I spent one day off. Flying around Cape Lisburne I saw wildlife at its most magnificent. Fishing for Red (Humpy) Salmon was fantastic. The BBC programme showed nothing of this wonder.

IMHO well worth viewing.

I viewed "Arctic Live" on BBC Last night to say it was a shameless propaganda exercise full of lies and half truths is an understatement. As part of the programme they read out 3 email questions from viewers none of which questioned the validity of their data. Paul Homewood has a good comment.

it's on again tonight and tomorrow.

I think the Polar bear is the most magnificent and dangerous animal on the planet. Good job they are not endangered.
