ACK, I can do without your patronising comments. I always took BH regulars (sans trolls) as being a fairly collegiate lot, not a 'supportmob', but then I see you have a tendency to take offence at the slightest challenge.

My point about the BBC reporting, in common with others here, was that the BBC seemed to want the viewer be left with the impression that Trump enjoys the support of the far right. Now, that 'news' item may have been modified in other broadcasts but the one I saw was pejorative. End of. ymmv.

ACK, when I was asked why I did not know the tune of the Belgian National Anthem, the honest answer was that as they never won anything, I had never heard it.

Harry Passfield.
"The point is, you can't chose your supporters/fans."

This is not the point. The point was, and still is the BBC was accused of "making things up" (ie lying) by someone who didn't take the time to check out his sources (if he ever had any).

The BBC comes in for a lot of flak (some of it well deserved) at BH but some of the criticism is unwarranted. Most of this I no longer bother with but in this case the accusation was so blatantly wrong and so easily disproved that it warranted being challanged. I have found it so interesting to see how the supportmob has reacted.

Harry Passfield. Since you don't want to put the matter to bed

1) what part of "Also note that the BBC used other broadcasters' material, it was not its own story." did you not understand? In other words defend your statement "the BBC used the link pejoratively."

2) if you agree with tomo, what part of the story reported by the BBC and broadcasters across the globe (I watched broadcasts from the USA, Italy and Australia) was made up? Did those other broadcasters use the material pejoratively? Is the BBC part of a world wide conspiracy?

ACK:

So how do you support your claim - "BBC just plain make up stuff as in the BBC's "Trump supporters use Nazi salute" stuff today"?.
They may self-describe as 'Trump supporters', but that does not make them Trump's supporters. You might as well say that Bruce Springsteen's support support of Hell's Angels, and his subsequent support for HRC means that HRC has the Hell's Angels on her side.

The point is, you can't chose your supporters/fans. And you know that the BBC used the link pejoratively.

Seems to me that Trump is changing his mind about more things more quickly than your average politician.

golfCharlie. No, but I have difficulty with the British one - I tend to choke when it comes to the bit about "Rebellious Scots to crush". I might, however, be able to hum the national anthem of Liechtenstein, Oben am jungen Rhein.

tomo, golfCharlie, Stewgreen. My post questioned tomo's unequivocal statement that the BBC were making up the story that Trump supporters were giving Heil Trump Nazi-like salutes. As as consequence of this we have responses from you that state that Trump does not support such groups (immaterial to my criticism), that Trump distanced himself from it (ditto, interesting that he is now being criticized for the time delay in repudiating the incident), and lastly that it is inconsequential (ditto, also an odd claim since the story went viral and was covered by the media worldwide: it would be very unusual if the BBC didn't cover the story). Also note that the BBC used other broadcasters' material, it was not its own story.

Tomo has still not explained his unjustified attack on the BBC, but let's put the matter to bed.

ACK but could you hum the Belgian National Anthem?

PCar I wrote "A difficult list to compile because Belgium is stereotyped as a nation of relative nonentities". This did not mean that I found it difficult, nor that I subscribe to the stereotyping. The problem I faced was identifying Belgians that others would know, and in that I clearly failed. I chose not to include Georges Remi since he is so well known that its almost cheating to include him; Tin tin is fictional; and to identify the King responsible for atrocities in Congo you need to know his reignal number (in this case Leopold II) which you didn't give. When I wrote my post I just couldn't be bothered to look up his full name - but I knew he was a Belgian Leopold.

Yes I did expect most readers here to recognize some or most of my list - with the exception of Lemaitre (who actually was born French, but spent most of his ministry and scientific life in Belgium).
