Yes @Tomo I should have spotted that,
but the article seemed to be written the way I wrote .
Online version
"All new black cabs on London’s roads must be able run on electric power only from January,
leaving transport officials with just months to build dozens of electric charging points."
..Not really they've got years to build all the charging points ..bet only couple of hundred taxis are sold each month.

It would be really useful to know how much electricity would be required to charge the batteries of London's taxis, and how many windturbines would be required to produce it over a year.
Obviously the wind does not blow all the time, so how many batteries would be required to cope with the vagaries of supply, to match the fairly consistent demand?
Stewgreen - I think that the rules that all NEW taxis must be electric but I bet they haven't thought about Uber etc. They can't even tax them properly. You'd think that they were trying to kill off the black cab.

What we need is a Genetically Modified Bacteria, to eat all Green Blob Science, and turn it into a fuel capable of powering a diesel engine. It would make the world smile, as an added bonus.
Re switch to electric cabs; it is only fair and consistant that both mini cabs and Uber have to switch as well.

I wonder what certain people would make of this attack on the “greenhouse effect”…
or this one;
Times : washing hands in cold water as effective as hot water against bacteria
... Hmm "one study is not enough" rule
...............................
By January all Londons 24,000 taxis will have to be electric
The switchover begins in September ..that's 200-300 taxis a day
I'll be surprised if all the taxis and charging points are dumb in time
clockups could make it January 2019,2020
what if 10 taxi drivers live on the same street
..24K taxis charging at same time ..will be quite a load
Another slight problem about plastic eating bacteria was portrayed in an old BBC television play where said bacteria got loose on a flight and systematically eat most of the plane. Very memorable.
R4 now ..science panel show unfortunately has 2 dogmatists on Steve Jones and Martyn Rees
+ a US anti-Trump nutter
I only just tuned in ..now
BBC Radio 4 News. Apparently China is going to stand by its commitments to Paris. Does anyone know what they are?
I think they involve producing as much power as they like, by whatever means, until THEY decide not to. Meanwhile they are happy to make and sell as many solar panels for the export market, as foreign taxpayers are forced to pay for.
