EM,

I think your comment about nails and guns is more in the line line of the wooly kind of reasoning of a liberal (ie. Not really attached to Real Life (tm)).

People want the ability to protect themselves and not to have to rely on the police to save them, especially when seconds count!

With different experiences, in various but different locations, I have reached the same conclusions.

Pcar

As an Air Training Corps civilian instructor I used the single shot L98 variant of the SA80 for range shooting.

One day we were given a large amount of ammunition about to go beyond its use by date. We blazed away all afternoon with standard SA80s and an LSW as fast as we could load the magazines.

I can confirm that there is a certain orgasmic pleasure in shooting automatic weapons.

It is said that' a man with a hammer sees all problems as nails. I can understand how members of a gun culture might see guns as the solution to all problems. If in doubt, shoot someone?

Living in Northern Ireland I have always regarded armed police as a necessary evil, but have never liked it. During the troubles the IRA would shoot at the army on busy streets, hoping to use their own people as human shields. The army would return fire and along with the dead IRA men would inevitably be civilian casualties. I would hate to see that becoming normal on the streets of England

"1saveenergy commented on About.
in response to Bloke down the pub:
I’ve just finished watching BBC Horizon programme about the moving of the British Antarctic Survey Research station which was threatened by a crack in the ice shelf. During the whole programme there was not one mention of climate change despite there being several about the ozone hole. Are we seeing the beginning of something new?"

I have not seen the clips you refer to but ...

Sometimes camera crews will film their journalist asking the question that another rival journalist asked.

Sometimes an interviewee will repeat his answers for the benefit of camera crews that did not manage to record it "correctly enough" for technical reasons.

Some PR Press Officers fancy themselves as Film Directors, and like as many takes as possible, so that a variety of Directors Cuts can be produced by judicious editing and distributed when necessary.

Like most actors, many Politicians like to be seen at their best, and are happy to comply. Unfortunately for Corbyn, the CCTV on a Virgin Train caught him whingeing and sitting uncomfortably, when he did not need to.

Radical rodent

I understand what you and Paul Gaston are explaining, but I fail to understand why you regard it as important.

I did a bit of research and a quick back of the envelope calculation to check. I estimate thei annual ncreased storage of energy in the atmosphere due to the specific heat of CO2 as about 5*10^17 Joules. This is one part in 200,000 of the total energy absorbed each year by oceans, ice and atmosphere, 3*10^22J/year.

In the mainstream literature this rarely rates even a footnote. Paul Gaston is pushing at an open door. Those mainstream climate scientists who have even noticed the effect would regard it as a very minor ingredient in the global warming process.

"dead count 9 now ?"

You're off message - MSM/BBC/Met police/Sadiq Khant message - 12 dead as the muslim murderers are victims of police shoot to kill policy.

Excuse me while I go and stick pins in my voodoo dolls of Corbyn, Khant, BBC etc.

Pcar something weird came up last night
Turns out that there are at least 3 different version’s of Sadiq’s Sunday morning interview as he must have stood in the same place and done almost duplicate interviews . (there are different people walking past in the background)
except the words ARE slightly different
– The 5 min Live SkyNews one has the phrase “There is no need to be alarmed (full stop)” ..
– The Guardian’s edited 1.5 min has : “increased policing, there is no need to be alarmed, by this ”
– The BBC live version contains at 7m00 “by this ”
BUT then followed directly by
“WE are THE safest global city in the world ”

...And that is emphatically complacent just after 56 people killed/injured by terrorists ..so does justify Trumps tweet.
dead count 9 now ?
