Who's gone to New York to give a speech about the state of the world's ocean ?
Bob "it's my farm now" Mugabe
Maybe he's thinking of a time when ..Zimbabwe will have beaches. ie when the entirety of Mozambique has disappeared
video of speech
I read an interview with David Attenborough in the latest Radio Times where he repeats the same old rubbish that deserts are spreading because of climate change. But I suppose that at 91 it's difficult to incorporate new ideas into a long-held dogma. Poor old sod.
Tomo. Indeed the gun ban works to the extent that parking attendants don't go around their lots gunning down petty infringers of their rules.

an armed population like say Switzerland? (iirc they are the most heavily armed per capita)
We have been very, very lucky indeed up to now that for one reason or another (and almost certainly f-all to do with any ban) AK47s (and hand grenades) have not been deployed by the beardy nut jobs in the UK.
That gun ban has worked well eh? in Liverpool, London etcetera where gun crime (esp. handguns) - is, for the most part - simply not reported beyond the local press....
Today's news deception by omission
"Oh diesel sales fell by 20% in May"
..yeh well, they rose the month before cos people advanced their buying due to of road tax changes/rises coming in in May
In an attack, I'm sure I'd shout run and then run towards terrorist with nearest stick/pen
Grab .. A weapon .. neutralise
Someone one said we've had too much
Run/Hide/Tell
ie in debate Run from confrontation/ Hide true feelings/ Tell BBC someone sent an offensive tweet
I don't think an armed populace is a good idea. Take a look at the USA to see where that gets you.
"A gun COULD have stopped London from happening" or 39 or 130 people could have been shot dead in a short space of time and it could have ended up in a big shootout in say... a theatre or a gay nightclub. Those planning to murder get the drop on their victims most of the time.
And do you agree that guns couldn't have prevented Manchester, or 7/7 or the Boston bomb....
We are never 100% safe but we are safer at the moment without guns freely available. That is always open for review.
Tiny,
That is some twisted logic there. Just because a gun wouldn't have stopped Manchester means we should continue to be sheep, being herded to our deaths, just to keep you happy?
A gun COULD have stopped London from happening and meant 7 people didn't have to lose their lives. However we will never know because no one on that bridge or in the vicinity of the bridge was armed. Mind you, having an actual effective immigration policy that didn't involve the words door, open, come on in, might have prevented the weekends activities too.
Remember, when seconds count the police are only minutes away.
Mailman
Imagine how much higher the death toll would have been, if ten civilians with side arms had come out of pubs and bars, determined to shoot anyone looking suspicious.
Imagine if every town or city centre friday/saturday night, alcohol-fueled punch-up ended with civilians drawing concealed weapons.
I would imagine that associates of these latest deranged psychopaths would could consider it a good result. Any Moslems caught in the crossfire would be hailed as martyrs.
