being a McDonnell gopher is I suspect and indicator that Naz sees herself quite possibly in revolutionary socialist terms .. it would be interesting to hear her elaborate on that?

Some of the staunchest supporters and beneficiaries of multi cultural Britain, consider they are entitled to discriminate and judge.

Naz Shah should be able to campaign against the worst elements of her culture (and religion, if that is a factor)

FFS this pollution stuff is rubbish.
I was in the pub last night & they had 3 log fires going.
That's like at Green festivals when the volunteers are all moaning about Big Corporations making the air dirty, whilst they are smoking a joint.
Then the next thing they want to do is make a gigantic bonfire.
- So these people moan about cars damaging their lungs, then they stand next to the open fire in the pub.
Then they have BBQ parties
Incense candles.
Smoke joints.
So how many particles get in your lungs from log fires, BBQs and joints ?

a pretty brave pal of mine inveigled himself into a public meeting where the fragrant Dr. Caldicott was speaking - he politely challenged her on a number of pivotal technical issues where she had made completely false assertions.

The peremptory dismissal / handwaving and insults (attempted handbagging!) about his motivation came thick and fast and the faithful attendees reacted quite obstreperously too.

She's a deranged harridan - and a seemingly lavishly funded one at that.

As an aside - the politics of nuclear power in Germany is something that I have not seen adequately explained - the arbitrary + abrupt shutting off of the reactor fleet is something of a head scratcher - if lignite and Russian gas are the substitutes.

George Monbiot was not the only person that thought Helen Caldicott was a couple of sprouts short of a decisive big blow for wind power

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_Caldicott

2010s

In April 2011, Caldicott was involved in a public argument in UK newspaper The Guardian with British journalist George Monbiot. Monbiot expressed great concern at what he saw as a failure by Caldicott to provide adequate justification for many of her arguments. Regarding Caldicott's book Nuclear Power is Not The Answer he wrote, "The scarcity of references to scientific papers and the abundance of unsourced claims it contains amaze me."[6][7] Caldicott wrote, "As we have seen, he and other nuclear industry apologists sow confusion about radiation risks, and, in my view, in much the same way that the tobacco industry did in previous decades about the risks of smoking."[8].

In 2014, Physicians for Social Responsibility hosted a lecture on "Fukushima's Ongoing Impact" by Caldicott in Seattle, Washington.[9]

Criticism

Benjamin Redekop wrote an article about Randall Forsberg and Helen Caldicott.[10] In this article he commented that from an analysis of Helen's autobiography that "Helen's self confidence was rooted in part in her identity as a physician". He also reports that members of the PSR board (who were physicians) were unhappy with the way in which Helen made use of the implicit authority associated with being a doctor. She did resign from the board. He wrote the PSR board members held a view that

"Caldicott was overly emotive, self-dramatizing, inattentive to factual detail, and perhaps even arrogant. There was a sense that the credibility of the organization was rooted in empirical medical science, that PSR's brief was to present the facts on the medical consequences of nuclear war, and that Caldicott's unconcern for strict scientific accuracy in favor of politicized and emotion-inducing appeals was undermining PSR's credibility."

Her book "Nuclear Madness" was criticized by Ian Fells (University of Newcastle) who commented that "She damages her own case by providing an account that is anything but objective. As far as she is concerned the Nuclear industry and its supporters are evil".

"Arguments that Big Wind requires subsidies in order to compete, surly should be over now? It made some sense in the earliest days, but today?"

So Denmark and Germany can lead the charge (no pun) and remove wind subsidies and onerous, damaging pricing + supply conditions (effective subsidies) on other electricity generators? Why can't the UK government find a company willing to build gas powers stations to do the required back up for wind?

thought not.

btw - the demonisation of nuclear energy led by the likes of Dr Helen Caldicott (you do remember her?) has engendered a cowardice in the mainstream about nuclear power - to the point where some seem to feel that people should apologise for even mentioning it.

The mere mention of nuclear power hints at mushroom clouds, glow in the dark, mutated plants and animals, eons of toxic storage - no mention of advancing the art at all is permitted.... Most people still have not heard of Banana Equivalent Dose or waste chomping molten salt Thorium reactors.

"Additionally, the lobbying activities undertaken by WindEurope help create a suitable legal framework within which members can successfully develop their businesses."

That is a disturbing admission. Where do all the subsidies go?

I suspect Naz Shah is as hard as nails - 5 years in an apparently violently abusive arranged marriage - and now she aspires to "leadership" indicates considerable mental toughness.

She was John McDonnell's lieutenant for a while.

Her falling for a Twitter parody account telling the Telford victims to "shut up" hints at manipulative cynicism.

I think her cynicism extends to not volunteering her actual political philosophy / ideology in public.

Her and Tulip Siddiq are quite a pair
