https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Climate_Foundation#/issues

European Climate Foundation

The  is an international organisation whose aims are to promote climate and energy policies that it says would greatly reduce Europe's greenhouse gas emissions and to help Europe play a stronger international leadership role in mitigating climate change. According to the group, key elements of a sustainable energy future include:

●A substantial increase in energy efficiency. FAIL, unless zero energy is produced FREE.

●A successful transition from conventional to renewable energy. FAILURE GUARANTEED.

●Maintenance of the earth’s ecological systems and the life-supporting services they provide. Equitable distribution of energy services to different segments of the population, both internationally and within nations. FAILURE OF CLIMATE SCIENCE POLITICS.

The European Climate Foundation is funded by the Nationale Postcode Loterij, The Arcadia Fund, The Children's Investment Fund Foundation, The ClimateWorks Foundation, The McCall MacBain Foundation, Oak Foundation, The Stordalen Foundation and The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

gc, lobbying, and vested interests, are everywhere. Continuing with the COP 23 thread, I've just been looking at the Canadian Nuclear Association, since they sent 6 delegates to Bonn. Their website leads with an attack on energiewende:

https://cna.ca/news/france-sees-germanys-nuclear-shutdown-cautionary-tale-2/

FRANCE SEES GERMANY’S NUCLEAR SHUTDOWN AS A CAUTIONARY TALE

It's worth a read.

One of their delegates to COP 23 was Rauli Partanen. He wrote this piece:

"German Energiewende Turned Into a Dead End"

http://www.theenergycollective.com/raulipartanen/2418062/german-energiewende-turned-dead-end

Also worth a read, and I agree with much of it. But they're all lobbying for their own interests, it seems to me. Never forget - follow the money!

"Who funds ECIU?" golf charlie.

According to ECIU's website:

"All of our funding comes from philanthropic foundations. We gratefully acknowledge current support from the European Climate Foundation, the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, the Oak Foundation, and the Climate Change Collaboration. During 2016, we received £183,667 from ECF, £121,375 from Grantham, £75,150 from Oak, £20,000 from the Climate Change Collaboration and £50,000 from the Tellus Mater Foundation. "

'Nuff said.

UK Taxpayers should be allowed to divest from Wind.

It is not economically viable or reliable, which is why Legislation has been required to protect it from market forces.

After six weeks I've had a reply from Claire Perry about wind costs. This came about from a post at NALOPKT about wind costs. I've copied her reply there

"Report author Dr Jonathan Marshall, ECIU Energy Analyst, said that with onshore wind the cheapest source of new electricity generation, repowering is a cost-effective way to secure new capacity"

That is just economic and accountancy deception. It may be the "cheapest source of new electricity generation", if you ignore installation/maintenance costs and the short life expectancy of the windmills. "New capacity" does not equal reliable generation.

Who funds ECIU?

Why did Dr Jonathan Marshall leave S&P Platts? They don't seem very enthusiastic about Green Crap

Head of Analysis
"Jonny joined the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit from S&P Platts, where he was responsible for analysing and reporting on European gas and electricity markets. Prior to this he was a researcher at Imperial College London, developing new materials for low-cost solar cells. Jonny holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Imperial and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of York."
