Mailman. My views on capital punishment have evolved over the years, no more so than during the 1960s (when it was abolished in the UK) and I was a student that attended numerous debates on the subject. Then I was strongly against the practice for the simple reason that it is irreversible. The validity of this objection was later fully justified when the later application of DNA evidence proved the innocence of tens of executed "killers" in the UK and reprieved numerous on death row in the USA.
In the vast majority of cases I don't believe capital punishment acts as a deterrent.

Local paper : a newsvert for a Chris Packham , Paul Goldstein trip in November to ANTARCTICA
It's headlined Bear Witness and illustrated with Polar bears
as I guess it does mention in passing that the last trip went to Norway.

... but I'd call it misleading, cos customers on this £9K trip won't be seeing polar bears.

"Also, amazing isn't it how quickly the EU can actually move and made a trade deal when they need to eh?
Chalk up another win to Trump."

German car manufacturers and industry are now flexing their muscles, on Germany politics, EU politics, and the EU's dealings with the rest of the world. German Greens do not run Germany or the EU anymore.

Trump knows how to do deals with the EU, and without civil servants. Juncker can do deals for the entire EU, without anyone else being asked. Who did vote for Juncker?

Yes who'd want to be down a cave on a hot day.

Family went down another cavern today. I stayed with the dog. Wisdom of this decision confirmed after I asked how long the cave tour was and received the answer from the tour guide "thirty to thirtyfive minutes, depends how many jokes I tell".

"The worst feature of the death penalty in many of the US states that allow it, is the practice of allowing multiple appeals, some of which are decided at the last minute. This, at its worst, must constitute cruel and inhuman treatment."

If I could add to that .......

Sometimes the Appeals result from questions about GUILT, sometimes about SENTENCE. The most dramatic are those concerning Guilt.

I am not against the Death Penalty for Terrorists, or cold blooded and premeditated murderers. However, one of my concerns has been highlighted by the recent UK Government announcement, and the political uproar. Could a British Jury be relied on, to reach a Verdict of Guilty, if they knew a Death Sentence would result? The only alternative for a Juror with strong concerns and perfectly reasonable objections to a Death Sentence, would be a Not Guilty verdict.

Supertroll,

Again, I couldn't give a rats flying f89k about a convicted killer on death row. I have greater concern for the impact his/her actions have had on the family of his/her victim. Thats where my sympathy lies.

Funny how actions have consequences isn't it. A lesson lost on many liberals it would seem today.

Chalk up another win to Trump. Funny how he keeps having all these wins when everyone and their dog promised us we would all be dead or all at war with North Korea...well...cant have NK cause the promised to de-escalate tensions on the Peninsula so I guess we will just have to settle for war with muh russhia!!!)...assuming of course you didn't die during the great net neutrality contraction or the American tax cuts armageddon or Kavanaugh's selection for the SC that is!

Reminds me of a editorial in the evening standard last week about Trump being out of his depth if he believed he could effect the price of oil...well f98k me if that night the news didn't carry a story about Saudi Arabia agreeing to increase oil output to help reduce cost to American consumers!!! HAHAHAHAHA!

How I wish we had a politician of his calibre here in the UK instead of the eunuchs we do have! Can you imagine just how great America COULD have been had the Democrats and their triggered supporters not decided to oppose and obstruct his Presidency from the get go??? Sadly we will never ever see a story like this from the BBC...anyways...MUH RUSSIA!!!

Mailman. I'm more concerned with the harm such a system does to societies that permit it. I've already written that I favour the death penalty for certain crimes, I am not in favour of delay.

Watch out for your eyes and teeth.
