"Trump says no new tariffs against EU after parties agree to trade negotiations
US will ‘reassess’ steel and aluminum tariffs, EU will boost purchases of American soybeans and imports of LNG."

https://www.politico.eu/article/donald-trump-jean-claude-juncker-announces-trade-negotiations-with-eu/

"Juncker’s visit was aimed at cooling the waters. In exchange for commitments from Trump to “reassess” the steel and aluminum tariffs and “hold off on further tariffs,” the EU will boost its purchases of U.S. soybeans and build more terminals to import liquified natural gas from America, Juncker said.

“When I was invited by the president to the White House I had one intention,” the European leader said Wednesday. “I had the intention to make a deal today. And we made a deal today. This was a good, constructive meeting.”

Speaking later to Brussels Playbook on the phone on the way to the airport after his meeting with Trump, Juncker said the pair had negotiated for three and a half hours. “It’s good what we’ve managed to agree on,” he said. The big win for the EU, Juncker added, was that Trump agreed to not increase tariffs on cars so long as the EU and U.S. are on negotiating terms."

See what can be achieved with the usually intractable EU when the German car industry is threatened!

"In 2007, the present Duchess planted a collection of dark or black flowers in a border called the Dark Side ......"

The late Duchess had quite an interesting life, and many interests, but I am not sure that the subtleties of geology were among them:
"Deborah Vivien Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, DCVO (born  and latterly ; 31 March 1920 – 24 September 2014) was an English aristocrat, writer, memoirist and socialite. She was the youngest and last surviving of the six Mitford sisters, who were prominent members of English society in the 1930s and 1940s."

Her nephew, Max Mosely, could have run a challenging motor racing circuit through the Chatsworth Estate, complete with a seaplane landing strip out front.

Project Fear - The Maybot Reboot

From BBC Newsnight yesterday:

@6min
"...And there are some Remainers who want in the words of one Theresa May supporting Tory MP said to me this afternoon,
"we want to scare people witless so that people will eventually embrace the Theresa May plan".
Important to say that is not Matt Hancock..."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bcq6lv

Why did BBC add "Important...not Matt Hancock"?

Agreed, Macron won with two thirds v one third of the vote. The two thirds is an unlikely coalition that could disunite very rapidly. Macron has apparently promised so much to so many.

If a quarter of two thirds switch to the one third?

Merkel's Migrant crisis has been disappeared by the BBC, and Macron is Merkel's presumed successor should she scuttle her career.

UK Politics are not exactly stable at the moment, and our Prime Minister could be unseated. Merkel is also very vulnerable. Macron may serve out his full term, but without majority support, then what happens?
