Once again the Intemperati mine geology for words of climate fear. Woke this morning to learn that "Hothouse Earth" is now the mote du jour. A rise of 2 degrees will push us out of our current Icehouse (which we have been in for tens of millions of years). The fragile Earth syndrome resurfaces. Utter, utter rubbish. Even Radio Four's Godspot: Thought for Today was wittering on about climate and praying for rain. Hothouse? No it's a Madhouse.
The BBC is off on one today, conflating some story about climate tipping points with pictures of wild fires in CA and Europe. No balance, of course. And all based on 'scientists say',' might', 'may' and 'could'.

Boris says that muslim head veils are 'oppressive' for women - maybe - but if so then what about the full burka? But then he had a bob each way by condemning Denmark's decision to ban the coverings. On that score he was probably right - banning them will backfire - who needs that?
Burkas oppress women
"Mark. Several years ago we were being driven through stretches of inland Croatia and passed by one crumbling farmhouse after another. We were told the owners had migrated west into more prosperous parts of the EU. I'm sure memories of the war with Serbs contributed mightily. I remember those farmhouses because at the same time there was much discussion in the UK of Brits buying up properties cheaply in eastern Europe and doing them up. The Croatian farmhouses probably couldn't have been given away."

The houses in Croatia you saw, MAY have been owned by Serbs, or other non-Croatians, that had co-existed with Croatians for decades. When the unCivil War started, many fled, never to return.
If there was a Civil War between England Scotland and Wales, imagine if Norwich was 90% Scottish by population, with surrounding villages 90% English, but Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft were 80% English surrounded by villages that were 90% Welsh. It was messy and brutal, similar to the partition of India and Pakistan, but with armed militias incited by politicians and rivalries going back hundreds of years.

I think that I would count myself amongst your number*, if that's any consolation? I probably don't agree with any of you on all subjects but I can have a civilised conversation and agree to differ on some things and agree on others. You and some others increase my knowledge on a variety of subjects for which I am grateful.
I find no political party reflects my outlook on life which can lead to Paxman moments in the polling booth. I regard those who extol the virtues of a single philosophy as the only way forward with a great deal of caution, whether it be political or religious or anything else.

Extremists presume that anyone who points out they are wrong, is the other sort of extremist. At least they are consistent about being wrong, and some are very proud of their record.
The problem for most Politicians, is they have to do and say what they think will get them re-elected next time, but fascists and communists are united in their support for democratic processes, so just don't care about anyone else anyway, until they need someone to blame

Rhoda and Supertroll,
I think some wealthy politically motivated Climate Science advocates are eyeing up property they would like devalued before they buy it cheap. Beach frontage, low lying Florida, storm vulnerable coastal resorts, California - where all the money for water supplies has been siphoned off, tropical paradise islands, the list goes on.
It is just another repackaging of Green Blob fearmongering. It is brown and smells bad.
