On the subject of COP24, I thought the UNFCCC had learned a lesson, since numbers seemed to be down at COP23. However, this year it seems it's business as usual:

"COP24 will take place in Katowice from the 3rd to the 14th December 2018. 30 000 participants from almost 200 countries will arrive to decide about the most important directions of climate protection. COP24 will be attended by the representatives of governments, diplomacy, NGOs and researchers, business and other groups interested in solutions to climate changes."

""Preparation of such a huge event is a logistics challenge which requires contribution of many people from the country but also volunteers. Thanks to them, visitors of COP will move around the city easily and enjoy attractions prepared for them,” said Agnieszka Lis, the Proxy of Katowice City Mayor for NGOs."

"What do we offer?
We have special „volunteer packets” for volunteers which will consist of a uniform, badge, souvenirs and a certificate. We provide a hot meal and drinks, insurance and free travel pass. We can also provide documents of participation for student apprenticeship for those interested. Volunteering at COP24 provides a chance to participate in the international event, get experience and gain new skills as well as a chance to meet new people."

Dependable, reliable, and kept out of sight, to allow space for irresponsible, unreliable and clueless partygoers and activists.

from the COP 24 link the landing page photos show a coal mine lift gear and what might be piles of coal .... I suppose that might be a bit more honest than the diesel generators at Bonn hidden away under some nearby trees.

Look at the Logo for COP 24 Katowice. I see something broken, disjointed, and coming apart. My congratulations to the designer for getting it past the UN's IPCC.

More PC witch hunts

A detective with the Met Police's anti-corruption unit faces an investigation after he allegedly used the apparently innocuous phrase 'whiter than white'; other officers are being investigating over the use of seemingly innocuous phrases including 'pale, stale and male' and 'a good egg'.

A brilliant article on the hype that spirals up and out from Climate Science. Putting Climate Science into a death spiral is easy - stop funding it with taxpayer's money.

careful watching the rest of it.... or you'll likely need medical attention for over-curled toes.

I suspect that Google's actual problem is that of those purported 80,000+ employees a fair proportion of them are essentially superfluous to operations - coders are likely a tiny proportion of that number, infrastructure and operations people likewise. My experience is that they are damned hard to contact and one has to assume that they spend their days pleasuring themselves while the algorithms churn away and rack up profits.

For some reason it (the leaked vids) all reminds me of Harry Venning's "Clare in the Community" - comic strip in The Guardian ....

" ... as they want to have livestock between the trees."

I may have to listen to The Archers again.

Not much plant life can survive beneath conifers, so any livestock will require feed to be imported , meaning an equal area of agricultural land will need to be dedicated to providing food beneath the trees.

Mature deciduous woodland does provide sufficient grazing for a few deer, but they will be eyeing up the greener grass on the other side of the fence, especially if it is next to a railway line or motorway.

If you want to destroy the ecosystem beneath mature (ancient?) deciduous woodland, the best thing to do is put pigs/wild boars in it. They grub up everything they can, not just truffles. A pig with an attitude problem is dangerous, wild boar tend to have attitude problems, and have tusks to resolve any dispute arising out of their attitude problems.
